CTSS IPB University Holds Transdisciplinary Learning Workshop from Wolbachia Bacteria Application Study for Dengue Fever Control

IPB University's Center for Transdisciplinary and Sustainability Sciences (CTSS) was appointed by the Tahija Foundation to study management, leadership and governance aspects in the AWED Study project (Applying Wolbachia to Eliminate Dengue). CTSS IPB University conducted in-depth interviews with the parties related to the AWED study project. The study results found a provisional conclusion that, in addition to the science innovation factor, the program was successful due to the support of stakeholders in its implementation.

As part of the study process, CTSS IPB University held a workshop to explore the reflective views and experiences of the relevant parties in implementing the AWED project, 29/3. The workshop was conducted using a transdisciplinary approach to facilitate the learning process together to obtain new input and knowledge for the development of AWED projects in the future.

Prof. Damayanti Buchori, Head of CTSS IPB University, said the workshop was held as a reflective effort and looked back at the AWED project running so far. " We want to have a discussion together that is more reflective, to see how the experience has been done," said Prof. Damayanti Buchori.

The IPB University lecturer from the Department of Plant Protection said that the mosquito eradication program using Wolbachia bacteria had changed many of our faces." This AWED program has made a significant revolution on mosquito control," he said.

Prof. Damayanti Buchori assessed that learning during the 11-year AWED program was a valuable historical leap both for Indonesia and globally. He hopes, from the reflective process of the AWED program, he can create science-based regulations.

"By coming together, we learn where the project's success points and experience what can be a new source of energy. The findings about this success can be replicated nationally," concluded Prof Damayanti Buchori. (RA) (IAAS/ARS)
