Research Collaboration between IPB University and Wageningen University to Develop Smart Farming for Dairy Farms in Indonesia
Directorate of International Programs (PI), School of Business (SB) and School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical (SKHB) IPB University together with Wageningen University & Research (WUR), the Netherlands held a Kick-off Meeting on research collaboration on dairy cattle in Cianjur Regency, Java West.
This activity was held last week at the Hall of the North Cianjur Cattle Breeders Cooperative (KPS) and was attended by various stakeholders, namely the Department of Livestock, Animal Health and Fisheries of Cianjur Regency, North Cianjur Cattle Breeders Cooperative (KPS), groups of farmers and lecturers, researchers and students of IPB University.
“This activity is a part of the Smart-in-Agriculture (Smart-in-Agr) research collaboration program, INREF. The goal is to increase milk production, animal health and the implementation of smart farming on dairy farms in Indonesia," said IPB University International Program Director and Indonesian Coordinator for the Smart-in-Agr Project, Prof. Iskandar Z Siregar.
In his remarks, Prof. Iskandar appreciated the good cooperation from various parties in this research collaboration. He hopes that this collaboration can provide benefits to dairy farmers, cooperatives, related agencies and the dairy industry, especially in Cianjur Regency.
Furthermore, Prof. Henk Hogeveen as the Dutch Coordinator for the Smart-in-Agr Project, said, in his digital speech, that this activity was a milestone for the long-term cooperation program between Indonesia and the Netherlands. Especially in the development of Smart Farming in the field of dairy farming.
Meanwhile, Aan Supendi as the Chairman of the North Cianjur KPS also warmly welcomes this research collaboration plan.
"We hope that there will be dissemination and socialization of research results so that it becomes a good lesson for various parties," he said.
On this occasion, a Letter of Implementation (LoI) was also signed between IPB University, Wageningen University and North Cianjur KPS as a marker for the start of research activities and data collection in the field. In addition, discussions and sharing were carried out with 40 participants, especially representatives of farmer groups, guided by Dr. Dikky Indrawan (SB Lecturer), Dr. Drh Okti Nadia Poetri (SKHB Lecturer), Achmad Fadillah MSc (SB Lecturer) and Ibnu Budiman MSc (researcher). .
"Dairy cattle breeders are very enthusiastic and want a solution from the results of the research, especially regarding the handling of mastitis and reproduction of dairy cattle," said Dr. Drh Okti.
The activity ended with a farm visit to one of the farmers in Cianjur Regency to review the research location which will begin in April 2022. (AFd/Zul) (IAAS/SYA)
