IPB University Opens Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical School
IPB University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has officially been rebranded as the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedicine (SKHB), as stated by the Dean of SKHB, Prof Deni Noviana, PhD, DAiCVIM. Prof Deni explained that the change has been made to comply with the Government Regulation Number 66 in the year 2013 about the Statute of IPB University and the Trustee Council Regulation Number 06/MWA-IPB/P/2020 about the Structure and Organization of IPB University’s Working Procedures. The Council has determined that the implementation of academic activities from the same area of scientific discipline with certain specification are to be conducted under “Schools”.
IPB University’s Veterinary Medicine has, in the present, three departments which are part of one scientific cluster, Department of Anatomy Physiology and Pharmacology, Department of Animal Diseases and Veterinary Public Health, and Department of Clinic, Reproduction and Pathology, where students must learn grasp subjects from all departments to graduate as a veterinarian. As such, through the Rector’s Decree Number 328 in the Year 2021, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has been transformed into the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedicine. The change would impact the veterinary profession in regards to strengthening its foundation to solve global challenges including One Health, biomedical science, medical biotechnology, and specialized veterinarians in the field of animal health.
In regards to the curriculum, Prof Deni conveyed that SKHB would run with the same curriculum as it did as it was nationally instated by the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association with the Indonesian Veterinary Faculty Association. This curriculum is in accordance to the Internationally Standardized Day 1 Competency established by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The Veterinary Faculty’s rebranding brings ample opportunities for future developments, including the possibility of new study programs under SKHB. Potential study programs include the fields of biomedicine, pharmacy, specialized professional education, and other fields within the same scientific cluster. The transformation to SKHB is official as per December 28th, 2021, while the administrative transition and adjustment are set to be completed within a year. During this period of transition, the name and attributes of IPB University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are allowed to be used appropriately. The School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedicine hopes for the support and collaboration of all stakeholders for a successful transition.
