Tenant of IPB University’s Science Techno Park Enters the Finals of Japan’s TechPlanter 2021

IPB University’s Business Incubator Tenant has been shortlisted in the Top 9 of TechPlanter 2021, a competition program for deep tech business acceleration held in Japan. The tenant is Crop Hero, a startup established by several IPB University students who continued its activities even after graduation. Crop Hero registered itself as a participant in the application of agricultural technology with the basis of Internet of Things (IoT). The product they presented was an integrated smart system which had automatized sensor devices and actuator control connected to the application held by the user. The program focused on the management of agricultural cultivation to ensure that it is smooth running and ensures an increase of productivity with the best quality. Crop Hero had passed as a finalist in the competition after presenting their product and undergoing the selection stage. Next, they had the opportunity to participate in the Demo Day on May 29th, 2021, which had been held virtually.

The competition program provided an opportunity for mentoring, funding and market expansion to startups in Asia, especially Japan. The evaluation criteria to win the competition consist of novelty, practicability, its impact on the world (whether or not it could bring about change in the world), and passion. The winner of the competition would get the chance to journey to Singapore or Japan to be introduced to partners and angel investors. The main winner of the competition would get 3,000 SGD of funding, tickets and accommodation to participate in the Tech Venture Meetup Asia Final in Singapore and receive an award from the partner companies worth 2,500 SGD. The target of TechPlanter is early-stage startups in the field of robotics, IoT, software, biotech, health, food, agriculture and technology which are realistic. This program is held annually. Deva Primadia Almada, the Assistant of IPB University’s Science Techno Park (STP) for Business Incubator, explained that this event has always been socialized and tenants of STP IPB’s Business Incubator have always been facilitated to register and participate in this prestigious competition. This is proven with results obtained in the previous year where one of STP IPB’s Business Incubator tenants won the main prize of TechPlanter. She expressed her wishes for Crop Hero to follow suit and win the 2021 TechPlanter competition.
