Interested in Agricultural Engineering? Choose This Study Program at IPB University


Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, IPB University is the forerunner of the department in charge of engineering at IPB University. Since its inception, the Department of Mechanical and Biosystem Engineering (TMB), which is the umbrella unit for the Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering study program, has always been consistent in developing agricultural engineering applications and is ready to produce innovative and globally competitive graduates.

The Head of the TMB Department, Prof. Dr. Sutrisno, said that the TMB Department would always be ready to develop modern agriculture, in accordance with scientific developments and the demands of market needs. This is in line with its mandate to develop engineering and its application to models, machines and processes related to sustainable biological systems in agriculture and food.

Currently IPB University plans to have a Faculty of Engineering. The TMB Department is very possible to later become a pioneer in the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering IPB University.

He said, the TMB Department itself had obtained national accreditation with an "A" score from BAN-PT and had obtained International Accreditation from the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE) in the Agricultural Engineering discipline in 2016. This achievement made the TMB Department the only one department that obtained accreditation for the engineering field at IPB University. Not only in terms of accreditation excellence, the achievements of lecturers and students are equally great. Of the 34 lecturers, 9 have the title of professor.

"The student achievement has been classified as very prominent and satisfying in recent years. TMB Department donated gold medals at the Pimnas (National Student Scientific Week) and PKM (Student Creativity Week) events. This achievement has played a big role in bringing IPB University to the second and third ranks at the Pimnas event in the last two years," he added.

The TMB Department also provides very adequate facilities for its students. Starting from research laboratories, workshops with CNC machines, machine testing laboratories to the use of 3D-printers to support the learning process and student competencies. In fact, TMB is also one of the departments that has the latest and best drone equipment at IPB University.

“Recently the Smart Green House and Mini Plant Factory have also been established at the Leuwikopo Field Laboratory to support the development plan for the Smart and Precisión Agriculture Station (SPARS). The facilities provided are of course very useful in supporting the competence, experience and skills of students, as well as for developing research in the field of agricultural and biosystem engineering," he said.

Apart from the learning facilities, the TMB Department is also very supportive of its students in developing their interests and talents. The TMB Department also supports student organizations such as Himateta (Agricultural Engineering Student Association) to student study clubs. For example, the Engineering Design Club (EDC), Engineering Robotics Club (ERC), Engineering Speech Club (ESC), Renewable Energy Club (REC) and Agricultural Bioinformatic Labs (ABL). In addition to helping and being involved in student practicum as Asprak, these study clubs have even become the backbone of winning the Pimnas TMB student delegation.

Students are also encouraged to be involved in collaborations with multinational and national companies. This is in accordance with the demands of the latest IPB University curriculum and the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. In addition, international seminars and summer courses are also a routine agenda of the TMB Department.
