Eight Universities in the World Join the Summer Course held by IPB University
Eight universities in the world take part in the summer course held by Vocational School (SV) and Directorate of International Programs, IPB University, (6-17/7). The eight universities are IPB University, Melbourne Polytechnic Australia, Van Hall Larenstein Netherlands, Tarlac Agricultural University Philipines, Jerantut Malaysian Polytechnic, National Taiwan University, Polytechnic Agricultural Development and Fisheries College.
In his remarks, the Rector of IPB University, Prof. Dr. Arif Satria said that this summer course activity was a good opportunity especially for the IPB University Vocational School to gain a new perspective. Not only academic enrichment with new cultural, linguistic and community backgrounds but also industry.
"By adjusting the online material delivery model and supported by technological and industrial developments, we can bring an industrial atmosphere to this summer course," he added.
Meanwhile, Dean of Vocational School IPB University, Dr. Arief Daryanto added that in this summer course activity, Vocational School packaged it in four series of International Webinar Series. The speakers presented were from AERES University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore. While the industry comes from PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, PT Cisarua Mountain Dairy (Cimory), PT Nudira Sumberdaya Indonesia, and PT Suritani Pemuka Japfa Indonesia.
"By presenting key speakers, both from academia and industry, this is one of the steps of Vocational School IPB University to support the reform of vocational education and training system or known as TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training). Hopefully, this can support the government in producing Excellent HR, Further Indonesia," he said.
According to the Head of the Organizing Committee, Ima Kusumanti, M.Sc, this summer course Sustainability of Tropical Animal Production took the theme of "Quality Improvement of Animal and Fish Production to Facing Globalization (Industry Based Competency") .This activity is a continuation of summer course activities that held in 2019. The implementation of the summer course this year is different from the previous year, because it is done online both synchronized and unsynchronized.
"Obviously, with the current conditions, it made us the committee team to think of creative ideas in order to provide the best material so it is more visualized and applicable. One of the steps taken is to prepare a virtual video fieldtrip to participants. The video made is a 360 degree video from the campus tour of Vocational School IPB University, Bogor tour, to the virtual fieldtrip industry, so it is expected that participants can feel like being in that place. The use of VR glass (virtual glasses) by the participants was also carried out to support the implementation of this summer course," she said.
In the implementation of this summer course, the teaching team from five study programs at the Vocational School namely Technology and Management of Aquaculture Fisheries, Animal Husbandry Engineering and Management, Veterinary Paramedics, Production Technology and Agricultural Community Development, and Agribusiness Management gave sharing sessions to participants. The material presented in the implementation of the summer course raised five main topics namely Poultry, Dairy, Fisheries, Animal Health and Integrated Farming which were then ended with a working group from each group which was then presented.
