Chicken Meat Logistics Management during Pandemic


Faculty of Animal Husbandry of IPB University and Indonesian Livestock Logistics Forum (FLPI) again held an online training which presented Sudarno as General Manager of Logistics at PT Sierad Produce, Tbk. In this training Sudarno shared tips on how to manage supply chain and chicken meat logistics during COVID-19 pandemic.

"Shipping of frozen chicken meat is different from shipping for fresh chicken meat. This is because the treatment for products is different. Such treatment has an impact on logistics costs. For frozen chicken products, shipping costs are low, but storage costs are higher, and vice versa with fresh chicken products, shipping costs are high, but storage costs are lower. This needs to be circumvented so as to avoid swelling in logistics costs," he said.

He revealed that during the pandemic, the company's sales fell from February to April, which recorded a 30-50 percent decline. While per May, it has increased compared to the previous two months.

"It is hoped that sales in June will increase again or at least last from the previous month. To reduce operational costs, one of them is by reducing inventory losses, namely by reducing deaths at the place of arrival," he said.

He also said that during the pandemic and Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) period, logistical operational licenses were very tight and complex. "We pay close attention to the health protocol in the logistics of chicken meat. This encourages us to be more disciplined with health. This is our commitment to ensure that chicken meat remains safe and healthy when it reaches the hands of consumers," he said. (IAAS/SAR)
