BLST Leadership Talk 3: Business of the Health Industry in the Middle of the Pandemic COVID-19
The health industry became a leading sector during the pandemic. Community needs for health equipment and services are increasing. This is a challenge as well as an opportunity for health industry owners and the public who want to start this business.
Prof. Erika Laconi as the Vice Chancellor for Innovation, Business and Entrepreneurship of IPB University confirmed its commitment in the midst of a pandemic. Campus has the potential and resources to help develop vaccines and produce herbal medicines. All parties must collaborate to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We must continue to move and respond to the situation with a new normal attitude. Indonesia has an incredible wealth of herbal plants. IPB University through the business unit of PT BLST must be able to make Indonesia healthier by returning to herbal medicines, "said Prof. Dr. Erika B Laconi, 11/6 in the BLST Leadership Talk activity held by PT BLST IPB University
The activity which was attended by no less than 430 participants was held through the zoom application and live streaming on YouTube. Present as speakers were Drh. Gunadi Setiadarma, Director of PT Biomedical Technology Indonesia, who is also an alumni of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, IPB University.
On this occasion Gunadi explained about challenges, health solutions and health industry strategies in improving his business. He further revealed that the need related to health access is increasing in the community. This increase was mainly in demand for medical devices, diagnostic tools, prevention tools, medicines and vitamins. Almost all the needs for these tools and medicines increased 1000 percent during the pandemic.
"Currently some of the solutions that have been done in dealing with COVID-19 are conducting counseling in various media. Preventive measures such as epidemiological investigations, analysis of increasing cases and the adoption of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB). In addition curative measures require health care facilities and the need for medicines. Here the position of the health company becomes important, "he said.
According to him, collaboration between the fields of science and communication in all aspects of health services is the key to managing a pandemic. Therefore medical and pharmaceutical companies strive to accelerate biomedical research and increase productivity for the manufacture of drugs and vaccines. One of the innovations made by PT Biomedical Technology Indonesia is the improvement of the rapid-test tool.
Drh Gunadi also said that one of the concrete efforts made by IPB University together with stakeholders was to prepare the COVID-19 test laboratory. The prepared molecular lab has BSL-2 standard so that it can be used for testing the COVID-19 virus in Bogor City and Regency. Hopefully this effort can encourage the prevention of the spread of the virus. (IAAS/FAP)
