IPB University Engaged Collaboration with Melbourne University & Chonbuk National University
IPB University penned a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korean top university—Chonbuk National University (CNU) on May 9th, 2019 in IPB International Convention Center, Bogor. Led by Rector—Dr. Arif Satria and Vice Rector for Collaboration and Information Systems—Prof. Dr. Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat, IPB University welcomed CNU representatives who were led by Executive Vice President—Professor Suhn Hee Kim, Deputy Vice President for Student Affairs and Career Support—Prof. Johann Kim and Deputy Vice President for Honorary Residential College—Dr. Ahn and administrative staff member—Ms. Yum. Dr. Arif Satria spoke on various topics things related to this newly-initiated collaboration expectations. Prof. Dodik Nurrochmat conveyed the potential of IPB University with its 24 research centers, nine faculties, three schools, more than 500 international students, and more than a thousand students following short-term programs, to collaborate with CNU through student exchange, short course, or summer course programs. Prof. Johann Kim expressed his remark on IPB’s impressive records and performance, as well on how swiftly responsive IPB has become as collaborative party; hence IPB became one of top priorities in CNU’s mission building cooperation with Asian universities. Prof. Suhn Hee Kim explained several potential aspects by utilizing CNU’s wide range of high-tech research facilities, ranging from LED Agriculture to High-Temperature Plasma Application and more. As CNU is located some distance from the city center, it is very suitable as a pilot area for agricultural industrialization.
On the former occasion, on April 24th, 2019, IPB University also received courtesy visit as well as MoU signing ceremony with Melbourne University (MU), Australia. The MU was represented by Professor Vedi Hadiz (Director and Professor of Asian Studies at the Asia Institute and Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor International), Professor Paul Taylor (Faculty of Veterinary and Agriculture Sciences) and Dr. Chris Weston (School of Ecosystem and Forest Sciences, Faculty of Science). The delegations discussed plans on establishing collaboration through academic visits and exchanges, student exchange agreements. The focus areas mentioned were agriculture (plant, soil, animal, agribusiness and sociology), food, one-health and forest sciences. MU representatives afterwards proceeded the visit separately according to each expertise, where Prof. Paul Taylor was welcomed by IPB Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Chris Weston with IPB Department of Silviculture, Faculty of Forestry, and Prof. Vedi with IPB Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and SEAFAST Center.
