IPB University Cooperates with Cianjur Regency Government to Promote Chili Farming

IPB University cooperates with the Cianjur Regency Government in an effort to advance chili farming in the area. This effort was realized by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between IPB and the Cianjur Regency Government on Monday (1/4) at the Cianjur Regency Hall.

"IPB is trying to play a role in the community by applying the results of innovations and research that has been done. Therefore, this time IPB will try to develop chili commodities in the Cianjur area, "said Dr. Ir. Aji Hermawan, M.M, Head of IPB University's Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM).

According to him, the issue of chili commodities is not just seeds and seeds but also concerns institutions at the farm level. Therefore through this collaboration, IPB University is committed to developing chili farming. Not only limited to seed producers but including post-harvest processing and marketing of chillies to consumers.

"That is what we will develop together, therefore we need to work together with various parties, especially the government, to resolve the problem of chili in the community," concluded Dr. Aji.

Through this collaboration Cianjur will be a role model in the formation of chili farming clusters in West Java. To realize this effort, there are at least seven things that are the main focus. Namely the socialization and optimization of the chili cluster, improving the quality of farmer human resources, increasing access to capital, increasing market access, increasing added value of chili products, strengthening cluster institutions by synergizing with corporate agriculture and optimizing strengthening commitment and replicating cluster models.

"We are very happy to be able to cooperate with IPB University. It should be noted together that 70 percent of Cianjur residents work as farmers. With this collaboration too, we sincerely hope there is a transfer of knowledge from academics to our farmers, "said Acting. Regent of Cianjur, Herman Sulaiman.

Herman added, until now farmers in Cianjur, especially chili farmers, are still applying agriculture manually and not conceptualized. Therefore Herman hopes that with the establishment of cooperation with IPB University, farmers can find out how to grow, how to process and market their crops. (NR)
