Shafira Alfarisi, student of the Vocational School of the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) who initiated the 10,000 Scholarship, managed to become one of the 15 Top Essays in Asia Speaks 2019 in the Indonesian Chapter. This is the first event held by IPB. The event organized by the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sport Malaysia, the Malaysia International Youth Center and the Asian Youth Council was held in the Andi Hakim Nasoetion Building, Dramaga Campus, Bogor (28/2).
Shafira's essay, entitled "Education Expeditions for Underdeveloped Regions: Is the Solution to Reduce Hunger and Poverty for Future Food Security. According to the final semester students of IPB Vocational School, the problems of hunger and poverty are strongly related to education problems. Shafira was convinced that education was the greatest weapon to conquer the world. This was proven by Shafira with many achievements obtained from studying at the Vocational School of IPB.
Shafira is the son of a construction worker. But this condition did not dampen his intention to excel. In addition to being one of the 15 Top Essays, Shafira is also the founder of the International Youth Summit student exchange program called Xchange Hamada and 10,000 Scholarships.
This girl from Jakarta has successfully dispatched 50 people to Malaysia and Singapore for five days in her first program last August. Now he is preparing for his second program in June 2018 to Sydney Australia in collaboration with Tasya Kamila, skinnyfabs and the University of Sydney.
Regarding the essay included in the 2019 Asia Speaks Chapter Indonesia, Shafira as millennial, made a real contribution by conducting research and going directly to the outermost and underdeveloped areas in Indonesia, namely in Punti Engkaras Village, Entikong, West Kalimantan. The activity was given the name Entikong Xpedition.
"There are many smart students out there, they learn about health and communication skills, but the knowledge is not useful if it is not delivered to people who need to achieve a better life," she said.
In the expedition, Shafira, assisted by several friends in the work team, provided assistance in the form of nutritious food and milk to fulfill the nutrition needs of elementary school children. Within a few weeks, Shafira and the team taught the importance of maintaining good health and hygiene and nutrition of food for children and the elderly. Another effort he did was to advocate to the government to improve education in the area.
As a result of the advocacy, additional teachers have now been assigned where previously, one teacher had to teach three classes. Giving donations in the form of money is also done to help village communities in handling emergency situations.
The 10,000 Scholarship Program managed by Shafira is one source of donations to help people in these disadvantaged villages. The program he pioneered since March 2018 is an educational platform in Indonesia that is incorporated as a foundation and is recognized by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia.
"The 10,000 scholarship was born to invite volunteers and donors throughout Indonesia to jointly contribute to better education. Our tagline is Supporting Education for Change. The source of funding for this foundation is not obtained from any party but from various activities that are held independently. This program can be done by anyone even millennials. You don't have to be a billionaire to make an impact," she said.
Shafira invites people in Indonesia who care about education to be able to help others who are more in need through the 10,000 Scholarship Program. Contributions can be in the form of donations or by following and sharing the Instagram account @beasiswa10000. (RYS)
