The way IPB University students to teach fish processing
Himpunan Mahasiswa Hasil Perikanan or Himasilkan IPB University is student professional associations under the guidance of fisheries product technology department,fisheries and marine science faculty, IPB University. The goals Himasilkan are accomodate aspirations,build up,develop,channel aspirations,interest and talent students from fisheries product technology department.
Fisheries product technology department has role as a processor for fishery products that ready to consumption. Other than that this department create cosmetics and pharmaceutical products from fisheries too. Along development of time make it easier for students to create new innovation from fisheries.
Himasilkan is created to accomodate fisheries product technology department students that want explorer the knowledge from college, through the activities students can get experience to work right away.
“When the students graduated expected already have more skill in fish processing,” said Arief Budiman the chairman Himasilkan IPB University 2018/2019. One of focus Himasilkan is improve skill fisheries product technology department students. Himasilkan supply fisheries product technology department students with certified workshop. The certificate can be used to find a job after graduation.
“The certification of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 22000;2018, and British Retail Consortium (BRC) issue 8 are certification that can joined by students with cheap price,” said Arief.
Not only that but also Himasilkan active on community service activities too. Some community service program which to do is Gerakan Makan Ikan (Gemaik) and Gerakan Masyarakat Pintar dan Cinta Produk Perikanan (Gempita).
Gemaik activities perfomed with invite children to eat fish together. Menu that served on this activities as fish burger or more fishery products. While Gempita program is community service activities that have goals to demonstration fish processing into many variety processed products. This time Himasilkan already create Gempita on Desa Batu Tulis, Bogor with process catfish into many more products as nugget and otak-otak.
“In hope, the community can own practice to start business or to own kitchen with creation fish to many processed products,” said Arif.
Different with other activities, Himasilkan create cooking competition for community too. The challenge which given is processed fish become many more product with potluck ingredients. Example,Himasilkan only serve nila meat, audience must process into special product.
Through Himasilkan, students have businessman soul. So, product fisheries business already do by fisheries product technology department students.
“With join Himasilkan, can add experience, softskill, and communication steps with many people. I can know communication steps with lecturer,friends,partner,and get many networking.,” Said Arief. (IAAS/NAS)
