IPB University cooperates with Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI), to realize its commitment to become a Green Campus.  The memorandum of understanding was signed by the Rector of IPB, Prof. Arif Satria with the General Chair of the GBCI, Ir Iwan Prijanto, MM, GP at the IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor (20/11).  The collaboration is for education, research and community service in the context of developing green building in Indonesia.

 

"IPB University is in the process of building towards a green campus so that new buildings, as well as old ones, must start to be considered environmentally friendly.  Starting from garbage, transportation, buildings must be environmentally friendly.  New buildings must be low carbon or even produce oxygen.  In the framework of a green campus, IPB University is also expected to involve the active participation role of students so we need training and training by GBCI, "said Prof. Arif.

 

Meanwhile, Dr. Fadjar Satria, Head of the Sub-Directorate of Cooperation of IPB University said that the collaboration of IPB University and GBCI was a collaboration in developing green campus in general.

 

"In addition, IPB University will build 40 new classrooms.  Of course the planning and design that is built must be in accordance with the principle of a green six net zero rating system, including the materials.  Not only that, the role of IPB University is also very needed to research suitable plants to absorb carbon and produce oxygen, "he explained.

 

The Chairman of the GBCI, Iwan Prajitno, welcomed the cooperation.  GBCI is ready to help create a green campus.  Iwan hopes that there will be research-based collaboration specifically related to socio-bioecology.

 

Regarding Green Campus, the Secretary of the Institute who acts as the coordinator of Green Campus IPB University, Dr. Aceng Hidayat said that IPB University wanted to immediately realize the green campus in the right way.  With this collaboration, Dr. Aceng hopes that there will be input from partners to provide the best, cheapest and environmentally friendly direction and input.

 

"This year IPB University is handling the waste problem.  We have made biodigester, biocomposter and facilitated transportation of disaggregated waste.  In the near future the team will carry out massive socialization and education, because in the framework of going to the green campus the role of all citizens of IPB University is needed.  Then the next concern is related to water and energy conservation issues.  With the establishment of this collaboration, IPB University and GBCI began planning.  There will be audits related to existing buildings, waste management, water conservation and transportation and energy issues, "he said.

 

In addition, the two agencies will also hold workshops for environmental experts of IPB University to create standards that will serve as development standards for Green Building Indonesia.  Later not only new buildings but old buildings will also be audited related to water management, waste management, electricity, human resources and will get certification qualifications that are in accordance with Green Building.  (dh / zul)
