IPB University Collaborates with PT Borneo Indobara to Develop Community Empowerment in the Post-Mining Area

IPB University welcomed the collaboration with PT Borneo Indobara in the field of community service in the post-mining area. The collaboration was realized in the form of a memorandum of understanding signed on Wednesday (20/11) at the Bogor Dramaga Campus of IPB University.

This agreement was signed by the Rector of IPB University, Prof. Dr. Arif Satria with the President Director of PT Borneo Indobara, R Utoro.

Prof. Arif Satria said, IPB University was ready to collaborate and work together with PT Borneo Indobara in order to improve and develop agriculture through community empowerment in the post-mining area. IPB University is ready to send lecturers and students into Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN-T) activities so that they can help the community together with PT. Borneo Indobara to care for the environment and public health.

"Mining activities often leave land in marginal conditions. Therefore the management of ex-mining land must be a concern of many people, especially stakeholders who care about the environment. With this community development and empowerment program, the community can be helped to realize improvements in the education, health and agriculture sectors so that the community is prosperous, "said the Rector.

Meanwhile, Director of PT Borneo Indobara, R Utoro welcomed the cooperation with this especially in community empowerment in the post-mining area located in South Kalimantan. PT Borneo Indobara has a high commitment to environmental management and community empowerment around the mining area.

According to him, the biggest challenge in managing post-mining is environmental and health issues. The planned and planned management and use of ex-mining land can actually minimize negative impacts after mining. This has always been the commitment of PT. Borneo Indobara in carrying out mining operations.

"This collaboration with IPB University is to prepare a sustainable program for the community in the future, in the post-mining area it can be used as agricultural land, plantations or livestock, so that IPB University is the most suitable and fit to manage it," he said.

He added, PT Borneo Indobara will continue to encourage all industrial sectors to be closer and sensitive to the social problems of communities around the post-mining area. It is hoped that the collaboration with IPB University can provide a better impact and change for the communities around the mine. (NR)
