In order to Increase the Number of Scientific Publications, LPPM IPB University Invites Postgraduate Students to Research Centers
The Institute for Research and Community Empowerment (LPPM) as the coordinator of the study canters at IPB University made various efforts to improve scientific publications. One of them was by holding a workshop titled "Building Reputation, Collaboration, and Internationalization of Research and Cooperation" in the 301 Postgraduate Conference Room, Dramaga Campus, Bogor (21/11). This workshop presented various parties who are expected to collaborate in conducting research.
The Head of LPPM IPB University, Dr. Aji Hermawan in his welcoming remark conveyed that research was very meaningful and valuable in many ways. He believed that IPB University had the unique strength to contribute internationally through research.
“There are a lot of research potentials that can be produced by LPPM IPB University’s Research Centers. Activities that serve the village, district, or company can be exceptional cases and have a theoretical impact. Related to research, maybe what needs to be explored is something unique, so unique that we can offer so that future research can attract many people who feel involved. That way, funding problems can be resolved,” he said.
He said that study centers also had the obligation to do community service. Hence, the study centers should start thinking not only about the income but also the outcome and impact for new opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Graduate School of IPB University, Prof. Dr. Anas Miftah Fauzi in his speech hoped that there was a special space given to postgraduate students to be involved in research conducted by study centers at IPB University.
"I hope that LPPM IPB University study centers can provide space for ongoing and already carried out research topics and then designate a person in charge (PIC) from the centers to facilitate students in communicating. Related to the research topics offered by LPPM IPB University Centers, we will provide socialization to students so that students can choose research topics that are appropriate to their scientific fields," he said.
He also added that the Graduate School expected research topic, funding, publication, working space, academic advisor, research partner, and discussion partner. “With those, publication and innovation can increase in number. The study centers bring students’ researches to stakeholders, so it will not stay only in internal scope. Concretely, the Centers can begin to rely on cohort, capstone and transdisciplinary research from various scientific angles. It will then produce real research and becomes a model,” he said.
The event was also attended by the Secretary of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of IPB University, Prof. Dr. Bambang Purwantara. On this occasion, Prof. Bambang stated several key strategies to build the reputation of the Study Centers at IPB University.
"Centers must have some key elements including goals (passion and big dreams), resources (split or marge), motivation (be different to be successful), networking and partnership, self-monitoring, and evaluation (based on data), compromise (feasibility and desirable), foreseeing (understand and overcome) obstacles, budget and financial competence, and visibility (media exposure)," he said.
The workshop produced several agreements; namely all Study Centers of LPPM agreed to provide working space for graduate students who wanted to participate in research activities in IPB University’s Study Centers.
Each Study Center will record how much the needs of students, how the model and the requirements needed to be involved in the research project. The Study Centers take part in building the reputation of IPB University, while the LPPM is tasked with coordinating, administrating and evaluating.
Attending the event were Deputy Head of LPPM for Research, Prof. Agik Suprayogi, Deputy Head of LPPM for Community Service, Prof. Sugeng Heri Suseno, Secretary of LPPM University, Prof. Faiz Syu'aib, and the Head of Study Centers and representatives from Study Centers under LPPM IPB University.
