Department of Biology IPB University Teaches High School Students to Maintain Biodiversity
Lecturers from the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), IPB University conducted socialization on the importance of maintaining biodiversity in SMAN 1 Tanjungpandan, Belitung, last October. They are Dr. Rika Raffiudin, Dr. Berry Juliandi, Dr. Triadiati, Dr. Nisa Rachmania and Dr. Kanthi Arum Widayanti.
In his presentation Dr. Rika introduced about the diversity and techniques of cultivation of honey bees that are not stung. Dr. Berry Juliandi teaches morphometric studies of human faces. Meanwhile Dr. Triadiati invited students to practice to observe the microscopic structure of plants and insects using a portable microscope.
“The enthusiasm of students increases when they are taught to know the average facial patterns in the classroom through the practice of directly observing the faces of an average of five students in a class. This is learned in morphometric studies of human faces, “said Dr. Berry.
In addition to Tanjungpandan SMAN 1, they also did the same to the Muhammadiyah MA, East Belitung. At the Muhammadiyah MA, the lecturers conducting the socialization were Dr. Triadiati, Dr. Nisa Rachmania and Dr. Kanthi Arum Widayati.
On this occasion they explained about Biopori and BioBlitz (studying biodiversity in the Environment). Biopori is a simple technology to improve water absorption in the soil, while bioblitz is a method of exploring natural biodiversity that can be done monthly, per season, or per time.
