PSM Agria Swara IPB University Introduces Indonesian Culture in Japan


Agria Swara Choir (PSM Agria Swara) IPB University introduced Indonesian culture to the international community. This time, PSM Agria Swara went to Japan for the 2019 Kagoshima Asian Youth Arts Festival (KAYAF) event which was held on October 19th-20th.

 

Kagoshima Asian Youth Arts Festival (KAYAF) is a festival by Kagoshima City Government to celebrate the Kagoshima City anniversary. It exhibits cultures from many countries in Asia. It is participated by countries like Taiwan, China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. 

 

PSM Agria Swara  IPB University was the only choir from Indonesia that was invited to KAYAF 2019. On this opportunity, PSM Agria Swara IPB University presented Indonesian culture through folk songs.

 

At least there were four songs sung on the first day of KAYAF; Lisoi from North Sumatra, O Ina Ni Keke from North Sulawesi, Bungong Jeumpa from Aceh, and Janger from Bali. On the second day, PSM Agria Swara presented Sik Sik Sibatumanikam from North Sumatera, Gai Bintang from Madura, Montor Montor Cilik from Central Java, and Yamko Rambe Yamko from Papua.

 

Not only through songs, PSM Agria Swara IPB University also introduced pempek, Palembang’s signature food, to the junior high students and teachers from Taniyama, Kagoshima, Japan. Agria Swara IPB University team wore Indonesian traditional clothing during their performances.

 

At the end of the event, PSM Agria Swara IPB University team received praises from the organizing committee. “Meeting these talented young people is a great experience I am grateful for. Agria Swara team is not only excellent in singing, but they create a remarkable example for the other young people for leadership, discipline, and team work,” said the KAYAF 2019 committee in its official Instagram account.
