Preparing for Work, Himatesil IPB University Holds a Professional Seminar
In an effort to imrpove self-readiness in facing the challenges at work, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Student Association (Himatesil) IPB University held a Professional Seminar in 2019 at the Abdul Muis Nasution Auditorium, Dramaga Campus, Bogor, (4/10). The seminar, which was attended by nearly one hundred students, was themed “Occupational Safety and Health Control in Building Construction Projects”.
According to the Head of Himatesil 2019, Moch Ridwan, the theme was about the readiness of students in facing the post-campus world. Occupational Safety and Health (K3) is one of the important factors that will affect work productivity for Civil and Environmental Engineering graduates. The risk of accidents and occupational diseases often occurs because the K3 program is not well established. “For that reason, it will become an added-value for graduates if they already know and understand K3 well,” he said.
In the event, Dr. Chusnul Arif, MSi as Secretary of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, IPB University, explained various strategies and expertise that must be possessed by Civil and Environmental Engineering students.
“We continue to improve the quality of education in civil engineering. By the end of October there will be a assessors visitation from America. Because of this, personal skill development must also be increased. One of them can be achieved through training or seminars like this. There are a lot of expert fields that you can work later in the field of civil and environmental engineering. I hope we can all prepare it well,” said Dr. Chusnul Arif.
Present as a speaker was Dedans Firansyah as Manager of Health Safety and Environment (HSE) of PT Nidya Karya (Persero). He explained K3-related control in building construction projects and some tips to be reliable in the world of construction.
“There are several common and important strategies needed by construction companies and become an important point in the HSE field. First, competent and expert Human Resources (HR), then appropriate equipment and correct and appropriate techniques. Now, when students want to enter this field, it is important to understand and able to transmit safety culture or K3 at work. Awareness of the importance of work safety becomes important. By the end of the day, the output of the culture that is built is commitment, and the output of expertise is competition management “said Firansyah.
