A proud achievement was achieved by the Agrolestari debate team in the national student-level economic debate competition. The Agrolestari Team consists of three IPB University students consisting of M Nur Farhani Uli Nuha, Futiha Hikmatul Husna, and Usman Abdul Muluk. This IPB University student won third place in the 2019 Exhibition in Revolution (Hipotex-R) Hypothesis National Debate Competition held in Bogor on 28 September.
This competition is an annual event from the Professional Association of the Department of Economics (Hypothesis) IPB University with various other series of events. After going through various stages of selection and competition the Agrolestari team from IPB University finally won third place in this race.
The national debate competition is an annual event that is quite prestigious and is in great demand by students in Indonesia. This debate competition is quite tight. Before entering the debate stage, applicants are required to provide critical solutions to case studies and economic problems. The theme of the national debate in 2019 is focused on gender issues in development, one of the issues that are currently being discussed.
Next, the top eight teams were selected who were entitled to take part in the debate competition. Starting from the preliminary round to the semifinals, they were confronted by teams that passed the last eight. Most participants of this debate competition are students majoring in economics or business. To win in this debate competition, the three students must compete with teams from universities throughout Indonesia.
“We are very enthusiastic about participating in this competition. Prior to the debate stage, each registrar team was required to solve problems related to economic issues, economic development to the role of women, equality and gender justice in development. It was great when our team made it to the last eight. Alhamdulillah, they can win, “said Usman, a student of IPB University in the competition. Voicing arguments and solutions in this race is certainly a challenge for all three of them.
Muhammad Farhani or familiarly called by Aan also added that the debate competition was very interesting, the topics proposed were very challenging, because there were many pros and cons, in particular, the issue of gender equality in increasing progress in the economic field.
The issue of gender is one of the main issues in development, especially human resource development. The backwardness of one community group in development, especially women is caused by various problems in the community that is interrelated with one another.
After competing from the preliminary round to the semi-finals, the Agro Lestari IPB team finally won the third place in this race. This victory is expected to motivate young people to voice critical thinking and aspirations in interesting and insightful discussions. (AVR)
