IPB University Students Win Favorite Champion in the National Unmanned Fast Boat Competition
IPB University students again recorded achievements. As an agriculture based university, it does not make IPB University behind in the field of fisheries competence. This time, the IPB University student team successfully won the favorite champion in the 2019 National Unmanned Fast Ship Contest (KKCTBN). The event, organized by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) on 10-13 October 2019, was held at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).
The 2019 KKCTBN was attended by 63 teams from 30 educational institutions. This contest is divided into three categories. Namely Fuel Engine Remote Control (FERC), Electronic Remote Control (ERC), and Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV).
IPB University participated in two categories namely ERC and ASV. IPB University students successfully presented their best achievement as Favorite Champion in the ERC category. The team consisting of Saiful Rahman, Ismu Zamzani, Dwi Puspita Ria, Ayi Warmia, Fahariman Yudiardi, and Delfitri who are students of the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of IPB University are under the guidance of IPB University lecturer, Dr. Yopi Novita, SPi, MSi.
The ship which was included in the 2019 KKCTBN was named Barracuda V in the form of Kasko V which has the feature of being an anti-inverted vessel.
“The ship that we are participating in in the 2019 KKCTBN has the form Kasko V, in addition to that the focus of the ship is focused on the bottom and the keel of the ship. So that the uniqueness of our ship is from the form of kasko and center of gravity. That’s what makes our ship anti-upside down, “said Dwi Puspita Ria.
According to this IPB University student, the factor that made his team the favorite team in the 2019 KKCTBN was the anti-inverted ship. Besides having the advantage of being an anti-inverted ship, the Barracuda V also has a focus on high speeds due to the V-boat’s kasko shape.
“The advantage of the ship with the form of kasko V is its speed and lack of maneuverability, so to overcome this, we add bilge keel to support the ship’s maneuverability,” Dwi said.
This IPB University student hopes that passenger shipbuilding can consider the design of the Barracuda V. The hope is that passenger safety is more secure and is one way to overcome the recent calamity of inverted ships.
“We hope that the design of the Barracuda V can be adopted in the construction of passenger ships or fishing boats, so that the ship has the ability to be an inverted vessel,” Dwi added.
The proudest thing in this competition, IPB University Team is the only fishery-based tertiary institution while the other teams come from engineering, both mechanical, electrical, and shipping. (AVR)
