IPB University Hosted The 5th Southeast Asian University Consortium Graduate Forum


IPB University is humbled to act as host at the 5th Southeast Asia University Consortium Graduate Forum. Held in IPB Darmaga Campus, Bogor on September 1st-2nd, 2019, participants included students and lecturers from not merely South East Asian countries like Indonesia (IPB University, Gadjah Mada University and Brawijaya University), Malaysia (Universiti Putra Malaysia), Thailand (Kasetsart University), Philippines (University of the Philippines Los Banos), but also the other East Asian countries like Japan (Tokyo University of Agriculture) and Taiwan (National Taiwan University). Vice Rector for Collaboration and Information Systems—Prof. Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat’s remarks expressed the institution’s gratitude for the trust awarded in being host and organizer of the 5th Postgraduate Forum of University Consortium this year, where it aimed to strengthen even more the relations between fellow consortium members.

The university consortium, better known as the University Consortium for Graduate Education (UC), was initiated by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Studies and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA). SEARCA Deputy Director for Administration Head of the Graduate Education and Institutional Development Region—Dr. Maria Cristeta N. Cuaresma from University of the Philippines Los Banos stated the Postgraduate Forum as an annual activity that aims to provide opportunities for graduates of UC members to share knowledge, research ideas, and experiences to reinforce ties among UC members. The UC's annual agenda started in 2015 at Universiti Putra Malaysia and continued through in 2016 at University of the Philippines Los Banos, 2017 at Kasetsart University and 2018 at Brawijaya University. In 2019 where IPB University acted as host, the brought up theme was “Sustainable and Smart Agriculture in the Tropical Region: Concept and Implementation". Master and doctoral students of the UC members presented results of their research in a variety of sub-themes. In the Production System sub-themes, there were 13 titles, 10 titles in Logistic and Supply Chain sub-themes, 11 titles in Sustainable Agribusiness sub-themes, and 13 titles in Agroindustry 4.0 sub-themes. Besides, the UC Forum Postgraduate delegates also held discussions on the sustainability of the cooperation of each university. During this honorable event, students from total 7 universities and 6 countries altogether also declared establishment of the Asian Graduate Student Forum (AGSF).

Directing towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs)-derived issues, its 3 aims include to connect and act as communication channel in-between member universities; to be information exchange platform on joint research, conferences, and scholarships; and to facilitate collaboration, networking and professional development.IPB University is humbled to act as host at the 5th Southeast Asia University Consortium Graduate Forum.
