IPB University Holds Conference on Making Indonesia 4.0

Along with the development of increasingly advanced and modern technology, the field of agro-industry has the potential to be developed.  By carrying out the mission of promoting agro-industry as a driver of growth and economic equality in the era of globalization, the Indonesian Agro-Industry Association (AGRIN) together with the Department of Agricultural Industrial Technology of IPB University and the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) held an International Conference on Innovation in Technology and Management for Sustainable Agroindustry (ITaMSA)  2019.

The international conference held at IPB International Convention Center, Bogor (9-10 / 10) presented 120 participants coming from various countries including Australia, Germany, Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.

The Rector of IPB University, Dr. Arif Satria said that the important agro-industry conference was carried out in relation to sharing knowledge, experiences and ideas in order to advance and realize a sustainable agro-industry system.

“This forum can be said as a response to the challenges of the industrial revolution 4.0 launched by the current government,” said the lecturer of IPB University from the Faculty of Human Ecology.

In his remarks, the Chancellor conveyed three main issues that will be faced by the Indonesian people going forward.  First, the response to the opportunity of the industrial revolution 4.0 which is currently referred to as Making Indonesia 4.0.

Second, energy needs are increasing along with the increasing population of Indonesia from 2016 to 2050. And the third issue is about the issue of sustainability or sustainability.

Related to energy needs in the future, the Chancellor assesses that renewable energy will become an important need for energy supply in Indonesia.

“Palm oil is one of the important resources for producing bioenergy, including biodiesel, bioavtur, biofuel jets, green diesel and green gasoline,” he explained.

On the other hand, the issue of sustainability is now also an important issue because it is to create a sustainable agro-industry.  There are three main categories used to realize sustainable agro-industry, namely economic, environmental and social.

To realize sustainable agro-industry, the Head of the Industrial Research and Development Agency, Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr.  Ngakan Timur Antara said that the government is currently launching a program called Making Indonesia 4.0.

“There are three basic principles used in the Making Indonesia 4.0 program, namely increasing productivity, increasing manufacturing exports and strengthening the strategic upstream industry,” said Dr.  Ngakan

He admitted, there are five main sectors that will be the focus of the implementation of Making Indonesia 4.0, namely the food and beverage, textile, automotive, chemical and electronic sectors.

“To create a sustainable agro-industry, it is necessary to pay attention to the demographic bonus that is owned by Indonesia at this time, for that, there will be treatment for young people about digitization and agro-industry,” Ngakan added.

He also added, to realize the industrial system 4.0 in Indonesia, it is necessary to build a supportive ecosystem.  The ecosystem in question is the synergy between the government, consultants, academics, industry, banking and technical providers.

Therefore, through the international agro-industry conference this time, it is expected to be able to provide solutions to the problems of agro-industry in Indonesia.  (rosyid / zul)
