IPB University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian Vanilla Farmers Association and the Indonesian Drone Pilot Association. The signing of the MoU was held at the Dramaga Campus of IPB, Thursday (10/10).

The signing was carried out by the Rector of IPB University, Dr. Arif Satria with the Chairperson of the Indonesian Vanilla Farmers Association (PPVI), Ir Rudi Ginting and Chair of the Indonesian Drone Pilots Association, Dr. M Akbar Marwan, ST, MSi.

With the Association of Indonesian Vanilla Farmers, IPB University cooperates in terms of education, research and community service in the field of vanilla development.

With the Indonesian Drone Pilots Association IPB University collaborates in the fields of training, remote pilot certification, use, utilization and development of the capabilities of remote drone pilot pilots.

The connection between IPB University’s collaboration with the Indonesian Drone Pilots Association, Rector of IPB University, Dr. Arif Satria in his speech welcomed this collaboration. Drone operation can now be certified, IPB students are also expected to have been certified for those who can operate the drones. With certification, there will be more and more drone users. In addition, remembering the function of the drone is not only photographing, but also fertilizing. Besides the drones are also to support precision agriculture, “said the Rector of IPB University.

The Rector of IPB University said, “This cooperation agreement is very positive in empowering villages for welfare and also educating farmers, especially in implementation of agricultural technologies such as drones, precision farming and artificial intelligence. Besides that, IPB University students can take real action or go directly to the field supporting and preserving the spice as a typical Indonesian commodity.”

The same thing was said by the Chairman of PPVI, Rudi Ginting. “We are very happy with this collaboration, because farmers will not be able to stand alone without collaborating with other parties such as IPB University, and vice versa. Farmers need educational institutions for research, farmer assistance and also agricultural technology development. Higher education also requires the implementation of agricultural science or the form of concrete action in the form of knowledge that is beneficial to society, especially farmers. ”

Chairperson of the Indonesian Drone Pilots Association, Dr. M Akbar Marwan, ST, MSi, the use of drone technology is a key factor towards industry 4.0, to increase productivity and economic growth in Indonesia. The use of drones is currently more widely used in the agrarian field and Indonesia is an agrarian country. The closest in the center of excellence is the world of education, so collaboration with IPB University is the right choice.
