Bogor City Government Employees were Trained to be Aware of Gender

A total of 75 Bogor City Subdistrict and Village Secretaries participated in the Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting (PPRG) training activity organized by the Center for Gender and Children Studies (PKGA), Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) of IPB University and Bogor City Government. This training course was held at the IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor (1-4/10).

In this training, the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya said that according to a study, Indonesia will suffer a loss of 135 billion dollars per year if it does not provide equal opportunities to women.

"The involvement of women in strategic positions is believed to double the economic growth in Indonesia. For this reason, not just to be fair, it needs encouragement and coaching to provide opportunities for women. When Bogor declared itself as a Child-Friendly City and Family City, at that time Bogor moved to become a tolerant city and provide equal opportunities for men and women. So the regional apparatus must understand not only about budgeting but also about gender," he said.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the LPPM's Center for Gender and Children Studies of IPB University, Dr Anna Facthiya said that the training course was expected to provide participants with an understanding of the importance of Gender Mainstreaming (PUG) in development programs.

According to her, this training activity could provide an understanding of performance-based planning models and the concept and management of PPRG. This activity trained participants to develop PPRG in the development of programs and activities carried out through the Gender Analysis Pathway (GAP), Gender Budget Statements (GBS) and Term of Reference (TOR).

"I hope that with this PPRG training activity, the budgeting planning process and the implementation of the development program in Bogor City will be more gender-responsive, or in other words, it can provide benefits for both women and men in all fields of development," she said. (dh/zul/zsp)
