STP IPB Successfully Develops 55 Start-ups in 3 Years

The establishment of Science and Technology Park (STP) is expected to produce a technology-based start-up. STP also must play a role in pushing the regional economy. This was conveyed by the Secretary Directorate General (Sesditjen) Science and Technology Institutions and Higher Education, the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Technology (Kemenristekdikti), Dr. Ir. Agus Indrajo, M.Phil in the Coordination and Evaluation Meeting on the Implementation of Science & Technology Area Development Activities (KST) 2018 and the Preparation of Implementation of Year 2019 Activities in Bandung, January 22-25th 2019.

Even so, he reminded that STP would fail if it was not supported by the local fund, and if it has an unstructured organization and uncreative management.

According to the Vice Rector in Innovation, Business, and Entrepreneurship of IPB University, Prof. Dr. Erika B. Laconi, the new indicator in measuring the performance of a university is an innovation quality. In the effort to support the down-streaming of research results and to achieve innovation performance, IPB developed Science and Technology Park (STP) and business incubation program that run the service function that was inseparable from STP.

The indicator of the success of STP is the number of advanced technologies that have been implemented, the number of technology-based startup companies (PPBT) produced and the number of industries that join the region.

In 2016, STP IPB received a grant of Business and Technology Incubator (IBT) building renovation for the first time. In 2017, it received the second renovation and a grant of extraction machine, evaporation machine, and furniture. The next year, it received machineries for a packaging house.

“In this past three years, 14 start-ups were produced by STP IPB with IPB’s share participation in them and 41 start-ups without IPB’s share trough incuBie incubation program,” she said.

In that coordination meeting, done were discussion about institutional development (institutional form, institutional strengthening, cooperation networks, KST function services), human resource development, infrastructure and facilities development, technology implementation development (technology dissemination, technology business incubators, technology transfer, and technology commercialization).
