To provide students with overseas study opportunities, IPB University has made many collaborations with various prestigious universities throughout the world. One of them is Kyoto University, Japan.

To socialize the cooperation that has been established, the Faculty of Agriculture (Faperta) IPB University held a seminar 'Study in Kyoto University' which invited Prof. Eiji Nawata, at the Toyib Hadiwijaya Auditorium, Dramaga Campus, Bogor, (29/8).

The Dean of Faperta, Dr. Ir Suwardi hoped that IPB University students could continue their education to a higher level. On this occasion, Dr. Suwardi also shared his experience while studying in Japan.

Kyoto University and IPB University have made a cooperation agreement. Therefore, every year there are at least 15 IPB University students who are sent to Kyoto University to participate in the exchange program. In addition, Kyoto University offers a double degree program, where IPB University students can study at two universities at the same time. "One year of study at IPB University, then went to Kyoto. Later will graduate with two degrees," he said.

Meanwhile, in his presentation Prof. Nawata said that Kyoto is a city that has environmental conditions friendly to foreign students. Kyoto is a city in Japan that still has a lot of Japanese culture so that it can be said ‘the real japan’. These environmental conditions make Kyoto University the best choice for foreign students. The university also provides accommodation for foreign students, even with a limited quota.

"Until now, the number of foreign students at Kyoto University is 2,732 students. The number of foreign students is certainly supported by the facilities provided. There is a special program, where the language of instruction in lectures is English. This certainly makes it easier for foreign students so they don't need to particularly learn Japanese," he said.

Prof. Nawata stressed several important things related to preparation for studying at Kyoto University. "The contact of professors in Japan, scholarships and English proficiency tests are very important," he added.

Prof. Eiji Nawata has served as Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Kyoto University and now serves as part of the Kyoto University's ASEAN Center. (RYS)
