The Department of Resource and Environmental Economics (ESL Dept.), Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University held a discussion with the Foodbank of Indonesia (FOI) institution, Wednesday (7/08) at the Dramaga Campus.

The Board of Trustees of FOI, Hendro Utomo conveyed the history and spirit of the founding of FOI. "In the beginning, I began to meet Mrs. Meti at the agriculture and food conference in Turkey. There I saw a city in Turkey that was very developed in agriculture and had a very old civilization. After I looked deeper, it was true that the main aspect the survival of their civilization is a stable food supply, Alhamdulillah, with this inspiration and enthusiasm, FOI has now distributed excess food from shopping centers and other donors to help poor families who have difficulty meeting their daily food needs. I went to the campus which was once inaugurated by Bung Karno as an agricultural campus, to be able to work together to solve the problem of food supply in Indonesia," Hendro said in the discussion.

Dr. Meti Ekayani, S.Hut, M.Sc, Secretary of the Department of Resource Economics and the Environment, FEM IPB University explained the potential for cooperation that can be carried out by the Dept. ESL IPB University with FOI. "ESL IPB already has a lot of research and programs that have been carried out related to prevention of Food Waste. We are very open to collaborating with Foodbank of Indonesia, starting from collaboration in research to establish baselines and to photograph potential performance. We can also work together to build FOI Bogor, Feed Bank, as well as implementing Community Development for our target villages. Our students can also do internship at FOI, and hold programs related to education to the public about what Food Waste is and how to overcome it," said Dr. Meti

Dr. Sri Suhari, S.Pt, M.Sc, Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Feed Technology (INTP), Faculty of Animal Husbandry, IPB University conveyed several ideas regarding the establishment of Feedbank (Animal Feed Bank). "We from the Department of Nutrition and Feed Technology (INTP), Faculty of Animal Husbandry, IPB University are very pleased with the presence of FOI which is able to distribute excess food from the food industry players. We will be very happy to offer assistance to be able to participate in processing food whose conditions are already inadequate consumption for humans so that we can process into quality animal feed," said Dr. Sri Suharti.

Prof. Dewi Apri Astuti, Professor of the Department of Nutrition and Feed Technology (INTP) IPB University who is an expert in the field of animal nutrition also gave ideas related to excess food processing to become ruminant animal feed. "I recommend processing food waste that results from excess food waste that cannot be saved by using Black Soldier Fly larvae. By using these larvae, we can produce good feed for cattle, goats and sheep. This practice has been applied by housewives in Hong Kong. If they can, we should also be able to work together with FOI, "said Prof. Dewi Apri Astuti. (RYS)
