IPB University Students Go through Expedition to Sabira Island
Dozens of IPB University students who are members of the Marine Science and Technology Student Association (Himiteka) went through the Himiteka VI Expedition to Sabira Island, Northern Seribu Islands (6-10/8). The activity that took place every year was aimed at taking coral hydrobiology data and mangrove ecosystems, acoustic data collection for marine instrumentation to take batrimetry data on Sabira Island and marking and tracking data sample points and the coastline of Sabira Island.
The Head of Himiteka, Yazid Busthami said that this year’s event also aimed to apply the knowledge from the four laboratories in the Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) and to explore the biodiversity of marine ecosystem in Sabira Island.
The Head of Committee of VI Expedition, Satria Utama said that this expedition was themed “’Exploration of Marine Biodiversity in the Northern Seribu Islands”. It involved 39 students and 2 assistants from the Oceanographic Laboratory.
“On the last day, we also conducted Marine Go to School (MGTS) activities at Elementary School and Junior High School in Sabira Island in the morning. Besides that, together with Balai Karang Taruna, we also released 100 hatchlings in Sabira Island,” he said.
