Being distant from the sea, housewives who prepare fish-based food, desperately need information to find out the level of freshness of the fish easily, quickly and accurately. All hope’s is to be able to consume healthy and nutritious food. For this reason, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University students have made an application with the name of the Si Cerdik (Clever One).
Si Cerdik is a developed version of fish freshness detector with acoustic method, which initially was developed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Indra Jaya, M.Sc and team. The detector was big in size, not practical, and relatively complicated to operate. Si Cerdik is made from the Student Creativity Program in Innovation (PKM-KC) which consisted of Aldo Dermawan, Syifa Afnani Santoso, and Dhea Fajrati Anas, the team leader. It is expected to ease the society in detecting the fish freshness only with Android phone. The process is pretty easy, only by installing Si Cerdik in android smartphone and taking a picture of a fish’s eye, fish freshness level can be detected. The application can process and analyse the photo and display the analysis result in the form of freshness level.
“Only with a short training, everyone can do it. They simple have to take a picture to know the freshness level. The main target of this application is young women, small shop owner, and general society which experience difficulty in deciding fish freshness level. The advantage of this app is that it is easy to operate, portable, and it provides real-time information,” said Aldo.
