GIVER-PRO, Natural Sunscreen Made by IPB University Students
You whose daily life is often exposed to sunlight, it is possible to experience the adverse effects of Ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Indeed, UV light has benefits such as synthesizing vitamin D and can kill bacteria on the skin. However, excessive exposure to UV light can cause skin diseases such as redness on the skin, skin feels like burning, wrinkles can even go to skin cancer.
Three IPB University students, Salman Arib Rozan, Nazer Hiddayah and Ruri Aruntika Sari found a solution. They developed a sunscreen cream made from natural ingredients from agarwood leaf extract, named GIVER-PRO.
"Excessive exposure to ultraviolet light on the skin can cause irritation to the skin, even to skin cancer. Therefore, we try to develop GIVER-PRO, a sunscreen cream made from natural agarwood leaves, "said Salman.
According to Salman, the availability of agarwood trees is easily obtained. Based on the research he read, the number of agarwood-producing trees that have been planted by the community and government agencies throughout Indonesia up to 2014 amounted to 3,249,959 trees and there were 67,221 trees including the type of G. versteegii planted in 29 Regencies in East Java.
"The part of the agarwood tree that is often used is sapwood (wood inoculated by bacteria). Previous research also states that the value of Sun Protector Factor (SPF) of agarwood leaves (Gyrinops versteegii) is ultra with a value of 12.36, "Salman said.
According to Salman, GIVER-PRO was made using natural extracts with ethanol and safe solvents according to the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM). This finding can be a solution to replace the sunscreens on the market that use synthetic materials and can cause long-term diseases such as liver disease.
"Our goal is the general public over 10 years whose activities are often exposed to sunlight and pollution or who want to keep their skin from UV light and pollution with natural ingredients without side effects," Salman said. (Rz / Zul)
