Students of the Department of Veterinary Medicine IPB University creates Cat IVD application to control cat population and educate the society about cat management.

This application is made for the Students Creativity Program in Community Service (PKM-M). It is android-based and can store individual cat database, owner information, and also act as an online education media regarding the caring, nutrition, health, and population management, which is applied in Pakuan Regency and Taman Dramaga Permai Residence. It is created by Dian Utami, Fathan Abdul Aziz, Resti Puspitaningsih, Yaomil Ashar, and Syahrul Fadhillahir, under the supervision of Drh. Mokhammad Fakhrul Ulum, MSi, PhD.

Dian Utami, the Team Leader of PKM-M Cat IVD App conveyed that currently the cat population keeps increasing. However, the increase is not paired with its welfare rise. In addition, the issue of zoonosis is driving the government to control the population and health of cats. Therefore, “Cat IVD App” serves as a media for education to the public which is expected to control the cat population, prevent zoonosis, and increase public knowledge regarding cat management.

The Cat IVD App team revealed that currently the manufacturing of Resident Identity Cards (KTP) for the Jakarta Provincial Government is still facing the main obstacle, it is feared that the identity cards will disappear and cause the animal’s identity not being able to be identified. One solution to overcome this problem is the application of an Android-based technology called Cat IVD App. Cat IVD App is a database reader application from Cat IVD that can be a cat identity storage solution and zoonotic control.

Dian said, based on a survey and interview with representatives of Pakuan Regency Housing residents and Dramaga Permai 5 Park regarding the population of cats in the neighborhood, several problems were found regarding the cat population. Among them is the large population of cats not accompanied by good caring management. If this is not handled seriously, it is feared that it will be increasingly dangerous for the environment in relation to the issue of zoonosis. Understanding these conditions, it is necessary to control cat populations so the disease transfer from cat to human, vice versa, can be prevented.

“Management of cats that are good will consider the welfare of cats that will have an impact on the creation of animal-friendly housing. “Pakuan Regency and Dramaga Permai 5 Residence support this activity by providing the necessary permits and assistance,” she said.

“The benefit of this activity is that the public knows how to manage cats well to prevent zoonotic diseases. The younger generation can also love and be more responsible when taking a pet cat. Handling is carried out to prevent cat population explosions that have or will be felt around the community and prevent the transmission of diseases originating from animals to humans,” she said.

This program’s sustainability is an important aspect in a community service program. Seeing the main target of this program is the community of cat owners with the target of supporting people who do not have cats. It is hoped that the community will be able to apply Cat IVD App and animal management independently and can socialize the Cat IVD App on an ongoing basis to other communities.
