Researchers of IPB Were Trained to Operate the PCR and ABI 3500 Machine

Educating staffs and researchers of IPB University from the Faculty of Agriculture (Faperta), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), Faculty of Forestry (Fahutan), and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) got a training on operating the ABI Proflex PCR System and ABI 3500 Genetic Analyzer machines. This training was conducted by the Superior Research Laboratorium Unit in IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (24/3).
Through this training, the participants were expected to be able to develop a DNA Sequencing application like de novo sequencing, targeted DNA sequencing, SNPs and mutation detection, next generation sequencing validation, microbial sequencing, mitochondrial sequencing, gene expression analysis, and methylation analysis. According to the Vice Head of Superior Research Laboratories Unit, Dr. Yudi Charidin, Superior Research Laboratories Unit is a new unit in IPB that is facilitated with the latest technology to support the advance and frontier research done by IPB lecturers and researchers.
“With the existence of this new unit, we are hopeful that the number of scientific publication of IPB lecturers in prestigious international scientific journals will increase. Other problem that is often experienced by IPB researchers is the insufficient tools in laboratory, thus making them to send their samples to other lab outside IPB and even overseas. Besides of the expensive analysis service cost, the shipping cost of the sample is also very big. It also needs complicated documents. We hope that this new unit can increase lecturers’ spirit to do research and collaborative research with national and international partners of IPB” he explained.
According to Dr Yudi, Superior Research Laboratories Unit has already done numerous trainings before; namely training on Flow Cytometer (FCM) application in Research of Genome and Ploidy Size Estimation for Plants and Animals in January 17th 2019. The participants were lecturers and lab assistants from FMIPA, Faperta, Faculty of Agicultural Technology (Fateta), and researchers from Primates Animal Study Center.
There were also training of Utilization of Li-6800 for Photosynthesis Measurement in January 10th which were attended by lecturers and lab assistants from Faperta and Fateta, and also training of Thermo Scientific Q Exative Plus Orbitrap LC-MS/MS System in February 7th-13th, 2019.
“In this training, participants will understand the basic principal of operating and data analysing from LC-MS/MS and understand the operating of proteomic result. Participants were lecturers or students from FMIPA, Fahutan, and Bio-pharmacy Study Center. Both trainings were conducted in partnership with private companies such as Enigma, GeneCraft Labs, and ThermoFisher,” he concluded.
