The Rector of IPB University (IPB), Dr. Arif Satria surveyed Creative Agriculture Field Station (SLAK) in Salut Village, Kayangan District, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) (14/3). During his visit, Dr. Arif was accompanied by the President of Alumni Organization (HA), Fathan Kamil, when he was taking three IPB graduates (SLAK managers) to live alongside the locals to carry out the programs needed by the locals there.

“I express my utmost gratitude for the people of Salut Village, who have cordially welcomed IPB to be involved in the society. IPB has innovations, researches, and knowledge related to agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and forestry, which can be implemented and improved in Salut Village. IPB, especially represented by Alumni Organization and SLAK, which was suggested by Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM), can work together with the locals, as well as with other higher educational institutions in North Lombok and finally, the regional government, to build the village,” he said.

According to him, with this partnership, there will be many potentials of this village that can be worked on and developed, so that it can support the livelihood of the locals.

“IPB also expresses its gratitude for HA, who has initiated, alongside LPPM IPB, community services through post-disaster assistance. IPB will always strive to give an added value to people. The people could give local information to IPB, which will be important for further sustainable management of the natural resources in Lombok, as well as giving IPB materials to study about,” he said.

Responding to the Rector, Head of Industry Body of NTB Province, Andi Pramaria said that North Lombok has many potentials in its natural resources which can be developed even further. The agriculture commodities in Salut Village consist of stink lilies, moringa leaves, red gingers, turmerics, and empon-empon, all of which can be used as medicinal herbs.

“Besides that, IPB alongside the locals can also process and develop the timbers in Gumantar Village. We can study from each other and develop the potentials in both Salut Village and Gumantar Village,” he said.

IPB HA President, Fathan Kamil, said that IPB HA had an initiative to commit with the restoration of agriculture, fisheries, animal farms, or clean water facilities alongside LPPM IPB in Lombok.

“LPPM IPB is very vital for us because with facilitators delegated by LPPM, we can build a well-considered plan to accelerate the growth of Salut Village, to be even better than its condition before the disaster. This can also become a regional locomotive,” he said.

It is hoped that with this partnership regarding post-disaster recovery, there will be an acceleration of economic growth and maximization of potentials inside the community.

Also present in this visit were the Chairman of LPPM IPB, Dr. Aji Hermawan, Vice Chairman of LPPM IPB in Community Service, Prof. Sugeng Heri Suseno, Head of Community Service LPPM IPB, Dr. Prayoga Suryadarma. (Ard)
