This Year IPB Students will Do Service Learning in Malaysia and Japan

To improve students' ability in solving developmental issues in society, Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) conducts several programs, such as IPB Goes To Field (IGTF), ASEAN Service Learning Program (ASEAN SLP) and SUIJI Service Learning Program (SUIJI SLP). This year, SUIJI SLP will take place in Japan and ASEAN SLP will take place in Universiti Putra Malaysia.

That was told by Chairman of LPPM, Dr. Aji Hermawan during the socialization of the three programs in Academic Senate Room, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (31/12). Dr. Aji said that the three programs are very important for the students. Dr. Aji wants students from all faculties and departments to have the opportunity to enthusiastically join the programs.

"These programs are formulated to give direct benefit to the communities, such as solving their problems and improving the students ability to serve the community. We hope that this program can give experience and improve students' soft skills, conscience, empathy, togetherness, and ability to develop and learn alongside the communities, and finally the ability to directly develop the nation," he said.

According to Vice Chairman for Community Service of LPPM, Prof. Dr. Sugeng Heri Suseno, IGTF is an education program to teach students about how to live, adapt, and work alongside locals. This program is carried out alongside other universities with various destinations in the country.

For ASEAN SLP program, IPB partners up with universities in ASEAN countries, and is conducted in turn annually. SUIJI SLP is an education consortium, consisting of six universities from Japan and Indonesia with the focus in cooperation in Sustainable Tropical Agriculture. IPB partners with three universities in Japan, which are Kagawa University, Kochi University and Ehime University. SUIJI SLP is conducted twice a year in Japan and Indonesia. SUIJI SLP emphasizes more on observating, listening, and learning about the local culture.

"The schedule for IGTF program will start from June 17 - July 8 2019 or 18 days on field. ASEAN SLP will be conducted at July 9-26 2019 or 15 days on field, located in Universiti Putra Malaysia.
