IPB is Ready to Reinforce Fisheries Sciences’ Impact through International Linkage Program (ILP)

Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Fisheries Sciences with the International Linkage Program (ILP) on master degree cooperation program concentrating in tropical fisheries on January 14th, 2019 at IPB Darmaga Campus. ILP is an international tertiary education consortium comprised of Asian universities and established since 2014. IPB was officially declared as the 7th member this year through the contract signing with ILP on Fisheries Sciences 2019 as part of governance link meeting program. Initially named Tropical Fisheries Postgraduate Program, ILP on Fisheries Sciences was a graduate school in fisheries with memberships originating from Sam Ratulangi University (Indonesia), Kagoshima University (Japan), Visayas University (Philippines), Kasetsart University (Thailand), University of Malaysia Terengganu (Malaysia) and Nha Trang University (Vietnam). This program aims to develop superior human resources by increasing theoretical and applied knowledge in science and technology fields relevant to tropical and sub-tropical fisheries. Also, this program is aspired to enhance the members’ ability to participate actively in global community. The MoU signing was carried out by Dr. Arif Satria—IPB Rector and Prof. Dr. Shunsuke Koshio—Chairman of Program Governing Council and Dean of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Kagoshima University. Delegates from member universities were present, namely Prof. Shunsuke Koshio (Kagoshima University), Prof. Emilia YAP (the Visayas University), Dr. Wan Mohd Rauhan bin Wan Hussin (University of Malaysia Terengganu), Dr. Kriengkrai Satapornvanit (Kasetsart University), Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngan (Nha Trang University) and Prof. Grevo Gerung (Sam Ratulangi University). The MoU signing was followed by cooperation projects signing within member countries, including student mobility that is critical to exchange ideas and strengthen capacity in research and community service field. Dr. Arif asserted that IPB contribution in ILP can be taken as IPB’s true commitment in preserving marine resources for sustainable development as IPB has been putting forth its commitment to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) pillars. Therefore, a strong network is needed in realizing SDGs components. Programs carried out by ILP members consist of adjusting the curriculum and courses offered by member universities. Students enrolled in member universities will automatically be registered as ILP program students, hence in this regards the aforesaid IPB students are from graduate program of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. Students taking ILP program can enjoy educational programs at member universities at no additional cost and will get college credit to hold a master's degree. Through this ILP program, it is expected that program participants can become excellent graduates who are ready to realize sustainable marine development goals.
