Prof. Iskandar Siregar: IPB is Very Active in International Research

Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) is a State University (PTN) that is very active in international research. IPB became a state university that received an award from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) as the best foreign research partner in Indonesia. This was conveyed by the Director of the International Program, Prof. Iskandar Zulkarnain Siregar when opening the Workshop and Research Seminar on Competitive Grants for Laboratory Management Innovations Towards IPB 4.0 at the Jannaes Humuntal Hutasoit (JHH) Auditorium of the Faculty of Animal Science, Campus of IPB Dramaga, Bogor (11/12).
“Laboratory equipment is developing very fast and has been very advanced. It must be followed by Human Resources (HR) or laboratory capabilities in carrying out these equipment. The development of the ability of Educational Laboratory Staff (PLP) is closely related to the IPB plan that was asked to build advant laboratories because of IPB is considered very active in international research,” said Prof. Iskandar
According to him, what makes foreign researchers interested in establishing research cooperation with IPB is the area of its knowledge in the field of life science and Indonesia is one of the countries with mega biodiversity (plants, animals, microbes).
“Indonesia has become an attractive place for international research. Interacting on research with foreigners also has high standards. The existence of the Nagoya Protocol can bring benefits to us. The Nagoya Protocol regulates access to foreign research on Indonesian biodiversity and the distribution of benefits. So that research must be analyzed domestically. For this reason, one of the objectives of the advant laboratory development is so that the research can be analyzed in our country,” he said.
Prof. Iskandar added that currently the volunteer partners who support overseeing the advant laboratory are young lecturers who are active in conducting international publications. IPB also began to organize the management of its laboratory to enlarge the opportunities for international research conducted in the country or IPB.
Meanwhile, according to the Head of the Committee, Adha Sari, SP, this workshop is expected to provide output in the form of publication of research results such as proceedings, national and international journals. The total seminar participants were 109 people. From PLP IPB as many as 105 people and AKA Polytechnic Bogor as many as 3 people and 1 person from the Bogor Agricultural Development Polytechnic.
