IPB Faperta Student Gets Knowledge about Future Agriculture

As the biggest food contributor in Indonesia, agriculture has to get the attention of current young generation, especially future agriculture model which will be dominated by technology-savvy young generation. For that reason, young generation has to be equipped in order to anticipate the future agriculture.

Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University (Faperta IPB) in partnership with IPB Faculty of Agriculture Alumni Organization (IKA Faperta IPB), taught the students about future agriculture. The lecture invited Corteva Agriscience TM as the speaker and was held on Friday (21/12) in Auditorium Thoyib Hadiwijaya, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor.

IPB Faperta’s Dean, Dr. Ir. Suwardi, M.Agr told the students that agriculture is important in supporting the suvival of world’s inhabitants. Not only about food, agriculture also encompasses industries like clothes, latex, furniture, and paper. “Now students, especially agriculture students, have to be creative. If not, they will find difficulties to develop both on field or in their further studies.

Dr. Suwardi said that with high creativity, future agriculture problems can be solved little by little. He gave an example of how the food production growth in the world can be designed according to human  population growth, so it can always fulfill the demand. Not only that, the problem about the decrease of arable land can be solved if agriculture practitioner has high creativity. With limited land, production can increase by increasing the product’s or the commodity’s productivity.

In line with that statement, Head of IKA Faperta IPB, Dr. Ir. Ernan Rustiadi, M.Agr., said that agriculture students need knowledge and information in agriculture. Not only in agriculture, students also need knowledge to prepare themselves for post-campus life. “IKA Faperta keeps trying to bridge students and alumni to meet and share experiences. Specifically, sharing experience in agriculture and other fields related to food,” said Dr. Ernan.

During this opportunity, Corteva Agriscience TM also gave knowledge about business in agriculture. Starting from breeding, storage, and agriculture digitalization. Not only that, students are also introduced about mobilization of the company and mobilization of farmers as partners. (Ard)
