To make people directly enjoy agriculture products, Agrisocio of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held Pasar Rakyat Tani 2018. The event was held in Botani Square, Bogor (2-3/12). Through this event consumers can directly meet with farmers so they can ask about the agriculture products.

“This Pasar Rakyat Tani was started quite long ago. We gathered several farmers in IPB Dramaga Campus to promote their products to be sold directly to consumers,” said Alfi Irfan, founder of Agrisocio.

Historically, the first Pasar Rakyat Tani was conducted in 2014 with five farmer groups participating. They agreed to make an event to promote their products. The promotion was manifested with Pasar Rakyat Tani held in IPB Dramaga Campus. With a different concept, this year’s Pasar Rakyat Tani targeted middle-upper class consumers. The event was held in Botani Square which is associated with middle-upper class consumers.

“Not only directly purchasing agriculture products, buyers also can ask about the products, or even help the farmers by investing in them,” said Alfi.

In this Pasar Rakyat Tani, at least 30 farmer groups participated in selling their products. They sold vegetables such as spinach, mustard greens, kale, and lettuce, fruits such as mango, avocado, banana, cherry tomato, apple, orange, and nuts such as soybean and long bean. There are also farmers who sold processed products such as aloe vera beverage, fruit face masks, and coffee. Especially for coffee, buyers can taste specialty coffee offered by farmers for free. According to the farmers, the specialty coffee has penetrated European market and will participate in exhibition in France next January.

This year’s Pasar Rakyat Tani is also enlivened by entertainments presented by visitors, in form of songs or comedies. To ensure that visitors and tenants of Pasar Rakyat Tani get additional knowledge, competent speakers were also invited in talkshow and seminar sessions. The speakers invited were Drh Cecep Moch Wahyudin, Erick Wahyudyono, Gugi Yogaswara, and Agung Wibowo.

Pasar Rakyat Tani will continue to be held annually with the support of Botani Square. With it held annually, visitors will be even more interested with local agriculture products and will also be inspired to work in agriculture sector. (Ard)
