The existence of Jakarta Bay is Important to Maintain

The pros and cons of Jakarta Bay reclamation are still going on. The impacts of reclamation and lease of islands became a major issue that developed. The endless long road of the Jakarta Bay reclamation has led to endless debates. Various government policies wereissued differently, starting from policies that refuse the reclamation activities, and even there are policies that support the reclamation activities.
The latest policy issued by the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta namely Pergub. 58 of 2018 on the Establishment of Organization and Work Procedures of the Coordination Board and Management of Reclamation of North Coast Jakarta, became quite controversial among the people.
The regulation governs the North Jakarta Coastal Reclamation and Management Coordination Board (BKP). BKP is a board that has the task of coordinating the planning, implementation of the Pantura Reclamation of Jakarta, the management of the reclamation of Pantura Jakarta and the reorganization of the north coastal area of Jakarta and providing policy recommendations for the implementation of the Jakarta Pantura Reclamation, and the rearrangement of the northern coastal area of Jakarta.
Therefore, three work units at the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) namely Center for Disaster Studies of the Center for Disaster Studies (CERDAS) and the Center for Coastal and Marine Resource Studies (PKSPL) and the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) conducted a comprehensive review of the management of Jakarta Bay in a sustainable manner. The study was conducted at the Center for Disaster Studies, Bogor (13/7), presenting Sudirman Saad, Governor Team for the Acceleration of Development (TGUPP) of DKI Jakarta Province in Coastal Management.
"The pros and cons took place in the reclamation activities, but already produced four reclaimed islands. With tugging policy from time to time, raises the question of where will Jakarta Bay be taken and how to manage the results of the reclamation that has been done? The existence of the reclaimed island needs to be comprehensively and objectively studied from academic view. This is to produce the best formulation about managing the Bay of Jakarta in a sustainable way," said Dr. Yonvitner, Head of Center for Disaster Studies IPB.
The event was attended by practitioners, academics, and experts who focused on this issue. Deputy Head of PKSPL IPB Dr. Ahmad Fachrudin, Head of Disaster Studies Center Program, Dr. Syamsul Bahri Agus, and TGUPP Member was also attending the event.
From this meeting, there were at least 12 participants who came from the participants who conveyed their views about the Jakarta Bay in the future. Some important points that have been formulated are the need to strengthen coastal conservation areas such as mangroves must be tightened. Because some of them are acting as ecological, economic and mitigation functions. Second, the importance of promoting conserved areas into public spaces with zoning appropriate for the needs of the community. Third, zoning should be the main base in future governance, including the islands. Fourth, strengthening studies include ecosystem risk, transport larvae and potential of social disaster in the event of private ownership. Fifth, the DKI government should utilize Jakarta assets including water space to meet the needs of Jakarta community such as re-enforcing sea cultivation, seafarming and marine tourism activities. The last is the need for a participatory approach in the implementation of future planning and development.
"We must have a way of looking at Jakarta as a bay that has extraordinary connectivity than simply a supervisor of economic services. Mainstreaming the economy is very strong in the effort to build the islands in Jakarta. Even though we really need the existence of the bay as a protective ecosystem for Jakarta. There must be a logical purpose according to humans, but historically, ecologically, socially and environmentally, the existence of Jakarta Bay is important to be maintained," he said.
According to him, Jakarta Bay or Sunda Kelapa is part of the history of the struggle of the nation's predecessors. These various kindhistories will disappear with evidence that is no longer authentic. The area that becomes a person who turns into a foreign language will lose its historical meaning because it can not touch with the sea. (FM)
