Muhammad Faisal Ramadhan, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) student from the Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, won the 1st Prize of the Charrette Design Student at the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) World Congress 2018 in Singapore (18/7). The IFLA World Congress 2018 is the leading platform and the pioneer of landscape architecture as a contributor to the development of an attractive, livable, fair and sustainable future environment. IFLA World Congress 2018 was held in Singapore on 14-21 July 2018, involving many countries from Europe, America, Africa, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific. Three themes were raised this year, namely Biophilic City, Smart Nation, and Future Resilience.

A total of 35 finalists participating in that event were divided into nine teams, where each team consisted of four finalists from various countries from all around the World. Muhammad Faisal Ramadhan, together with three other finalists from Malaysia, Singapore, and France, shared their future resilience insights as architects in overcoming essential infrastructure systems compromised in the city. The challenges that threaten biodiversity, tsunamis, floods, and others were addressed and stability can be reached by designing a city without losing the wealth resource within.

Participants visited Punggol City, Singapore, for study case on potential city-threats in the upcoming years. They identified threat on biodiversity caused by conversion to be skyscrapers in the city. Muhammad Faisal Ramadhan and his team introduced green building and city parks to solve issues emerged by urbanization in Singapore. The solution offered was to balance development while maintaining island’s natural presence.
