IPB Lambupeso Team Teach Fisherman’s Wife from Muara Angke to sell abon online

Indonesia as a maritime country whose vast sea territory is wider than its land, makes Indonesian depend on marine sector. Therefore, livelihoods as fishermen are also found mainly in coastal areas. However, the job of being a fisherman has not been able to improve the fishermen's family economy, as happened to fisher families in Muara Angke, North Jakarta. Although already working as fishermen, poverty is still a major problem in their environment.
A group of students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Nadiya Ulfa, Ismah Aini, Immatul Ulya, Fuad Heru and Affan Ghaffar have creative ideas to eradicate the poverty of fishermen families in Muara Angke. The idea was channeled through the Community Student Creativity Program (PKM-M). Guided by two young lecturers namely Kastana Sapanli, S. Pi, M. Si and Dr. Soni Trison, S.Hut, M.Si, they train the fisherman wife of Muara Angke to make fish selon abon.
Nadiya named his team Lambupeso (Training of Processed Fish Prodangat Selangat and Marketing Online). This effort is to empower the wife of fishermen as an alternative estimator in Muara Angke, Jakarta Bay.
The poverty of the fishermen is also due to the reclamation of the Jakarta Bay which is now under construction. So the fishermen are getting worse because the usual catchment area is reduced and displaced. They should look for further catch locations. That way they also need more fuel but the price is rising, "said Affan.
Nadiya invites 20 fishermen wives to create a processed product from the catch of fishermen in the sea. Furthermore, the processed products are marketed online. Since it is being heavily used, using online media give more facilitate marketing and potentially known by the public.
"So there is one fish that lives in many habitat and easily found by the fisherman which are selangat fish or belo fish. together with the fishermen's wife in Muara Angke make processed products from fish selangat and we sell it after that, "added Fuad.
The activities conducted by Lambupeso Team started from the socialization about the product, the manufacture of processed products, and the explanation of the marketing. Online marketing is a challenge for Team Lambupeso in educating the fishermen's wives.
"In the process-making of abon, the fishermen's wives are better than us. For marketing we use some social media that is exist such as facebook, instagram, youtube, website, and some famous startup in Indonesia, "said Affan.
Not just that, Lambupeso team also register the fish seller products to the Government of DKI Jakarta program that is OK OCE. From the program, the fish shrimp products will be more helpful in marketing and the fishermen's wives can be given further training by OK OCE.
With the creation of processed abon products from selangat fish marketed through online media, Nadiya and her team hope that this could increase the productivity of fishermen's wife and help the fishermen's family economy.
"We hope that this be more beneficial for fishermen’s wife there, especially with their backgrounds that have minimal income for daily needs. With the empowerment of fishermen's wife we expected it to help the welfare of fishermen's families, " Said Nadiya. (jhn)
