Quarter, Creative Innovation of IPB Students to Facilitate Learning Science
Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) students developed a quarted card game innovation into an alternative learning method for elementary school students in improving the score of natural science subject in the national exam. Deasy Ramatia, Yoga Rivaldi, Muhammad Ridlo Aditya, Muthia Rezky Anggeraini, and Nia Kurniawati are members of a team in Student Creativity Program (PKM) Community Service under the supervision of Lukmanul Hakim Zaini, S. Hut, M. Sc. This innovation, Quarter or “Quarted Pinter” (Smart Quarted) was selected as one of thousands of proposals which was awarded a grant from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti) RI.
The initial idea of this Quarter card development was from the low level of learning in elementary students, especially on natural science. This can also be seen from the level of productivity in early-age children who are more prepared to learn and play gadgets and other electronic objects, which will then impact on laziness and decrease of academic score each year. It is in accordance with data from the Central Bureau of Statistics for education of West Java, which states that the average score of natural science subject in the national exam is 0.05 - 0.06 points each year. Of course an alternative solution need to sought for a learning method based on Learn, Play, Implementation Method in the form of learning by playing process.
Quarter is the answer for the needs of educators and parents in teaching elementary students in improving productivity for the national exam. Quarter is formulated in the form of quarted cards combined with natural science lessons and includes riddles in the game content to support elementary students' knowledge. Natural science is chosen because it is an indicator of learning method in the field of natural sciences which is included in the national exam for elementary students.
Besides targeting elementary school students, Quarter can also be used for non-formal learning media so that children can play while learning by using this Quarter card and of course become supporting media for elementary school teachers in improving knowledge. One of the schools that became the Quarter trial was SDN Leuweung Kolot 7, Cibungbulang, Bogor. "Quarter is good, it can be supporting facilities for elementary school teachers, especially SDN Leuweung Kolot 07, in teaching natural science to students," said Mr. Entus as the teacher of this school.
