IPB Students Design Tele-Fishing, An Innovation for Fishermen in Fishing
The influence of globalization apparently did not make the Indonesian fishermen touched by new technology. Their catch was very minimal. Seeing these conditions, five Bogor Agricultural University students (IPB) tried to find solutions based on technology and internet fishing.
Pradana Bayu, Insan Maulana Yusup, Bryan, Maychel Erryansyah, and Nadya Kusuma Wardani, five students from Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK) IPB under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Indra Jaya, M.Sc in Student Creativity Program – application of technology (PKM-T) made Tele-Fishing, a solution to facilitate fishermen in fishing.
Tele-Fishing is a technology for harvesting and observing fish in boat charts with the goal of helping fishermen to reduce their production costs and overcome uncertain catch problems.
" Tele-Fishing is a technology for harvesting and observing fish in boat charts based on internet of things with the goal of helping fishermen to reduce their production costs and overcome uncertain catch problems," Pradana Bayu said.
Lamps and cameras in Tele-Fishing can be easily controlled from home. The function of the lamp is to attract the attention of fish, while the function of the camera is to monitor the fish responding to the light of the lamp.
"Tele-Fishing uses lamps and cameras that can be controlled from the fisherman's own house without being in the boat chart. These lights attract the attention of fish so it will gather in nets that have been installed, and then we monitor it using the camera with the Internet network. After the fish gathered, then the fisherman will go to the chart," he said.
According to research conducted by Pradana Bayu and fishermen, light coming from these lamps will attract the attention of fish that like the lights, like anchovies and largehead hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus).
The advantages offered by Tele-Fishing are the effectiveness of fishermen’s time, practicality, and fuel-saving.
"The advantages that we offer here, in addition to this innovation has been using internet connection and remote control system that can regulate lights and cameras from the house, this tool is a solution to reduce the fuel used by fishermen. The most important advantage here is the effectiveness of fishing time, "said Pradana Bayu.
Furthermore, Pradana Bayu said that Tele-Fishing is not only can be used individually, but also can be used collectively.
"No need to worry about the expensive cost, because actually the target of this tool is collective," he said.
In the future, Pradana Bayu hopes that this Tele-Fishing can prosper the fisherman so that the fish catch can meet the expected target.
"We hope that with our innovation, Tele-Fishing, fishermen's life can be more prosperous and the supply of fish in Indonesia can be fulfilled and one of them is through capture fisheries," added Pradana Bayu. (RYF)
