IPB Students create an interactive personal hygiene game for children called E-Halo

Lately these days, the game of Ludo is coming back into trend with many people. The game Ludo has a few similarietis with the popular game snakes and ladders. This game uses a board and can be played by two or more people by thorwing a dice beforehand. The players then compete with each other to be the first to reach the finish line.
Starting from the diphteria outbreak that had even reached as far as the Bogor region and surrounding areas, five students from the Faculty of Veterinery Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FKH IPB) which consist of Aldilah Yafitz, Rahma Yelvi Anaf, Panji Khoirul Anam, Elsi Rahmadhani and Fathan Abdul Aziz created a large sized game of Ludo whcih contained content about personal higiene around the topics of self hiegene, environmental higene, food and beverages, and how to avoid diseases.
The game was given the name E-Halo also known as Education on Personal Higene Ludo (Edukasi Higene Personal Ludo) and on every corner of the board game represented a different theme. Aldilah and the team developed E-Halo as an interactive educational medium on personal hygiene for children throgh the one health apporach. This Student Creative Program on the Dedication towards the Community Division (PKM M) was supervised by a supervising proffesor Dr. Drh. Andriayanto M.Si. The Diphteria outbreak is capable of being airborne. When someone infected by diphteria coughs or sneezes in the midst of a crowd, the outbreak can spread. This is due to the cause of minumum practice of personal hygiene from the community. “E-Halo is an innovation in personal hygiene education for children which is both interactive and can be directly implemented through this interesting game,” explained the Head of the PKM M Team, Aldilah Yafitz.
Every box in the game of ludo has a question and a funfact that is given a specific logo. The player must be able to answer these questions that are on the card to stay in the box he/she is currently on and must move backwards to the previous box if he/she is unable to answer the question or has answered incorrectly. If the player has landed on a funfact box which contains facts on the four divisions of personal hygiene, then the player must read the facts out loud so that all the other players may hear.
“The question cards and funfacts have already been provided by us. Every box on ludo is given a logo that will decide the question and funfact. For example a funfact that we provided says “Did you know that you must wash fruits and vegetables first before consuming them to prevent diarrhea.’ Through this game of E-Halo we would like to deliver the importance of personal hygiene to increase the welfare and quality of the community,” Aldilah Yafitz said.
Teachers are the best targets in implementing this E-Halo game. This is because the important role of teachers is to shape the personality of the students. Teachers will continue to teach this game to their students even for future generations to come. These considerations are what made the team choose teachers as the main target for implementing this E-Halo to their students.
The implementation of E-Halo was done at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah PUI Cibanteng, Bogor. The team had implemented correct personal hygeiene which consists of self cleanliness, envionment, food and beverages, and prevention of diseases. Some activiteis that were done by the team towards the teachers and students of MI PUI Cibanteng were introducing the program, a socialization on personal hygiene, simulation of E-Halo game, and evaluation of the results of the E-Halo game.
“We hope that this game can bring poitive results and respones from the government and will keep being continued. We have given a few sets of the E-Halo game to MI PUI Cibanteng so that they can continue to play this game without the supervision of the team. Our target is to create a socialization of the E-Halo game towards all Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in Bogor,” Aldilah Yafitz explained. (AVR)
