IPB Students Won the First Winner for National Debate Competition on Politics

Again another achievement was by a group of students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). They were Aditya Hadid Riyadi, Ghazaly Imam Negoro, and Kays Abdul Fatah of the Faculty of Economic Management (FEM), who had successfully won the first winner of the National Debate Competition held by Andalas University, on 4-7 April 2018, in Padang. The national debate competition was participated by representatives of major campuses in Indonesia.

The theme of the National Debate Competition was "Reflection and Reconstruction of Understanding of Political Identity in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia". In this competition the participants are required to think critically about political issues and national political issues are being discussed.

"The competition this time is quite interesting and challenging. This is the first time for us to participate in an off-topic debate competition as our basic is economy. We are students of the school of economics, and we were demanded to be quaified in legal and political arguments," Adit said.

The debate competition consisted of three rounds, namely the preliminary round, quarter final, then the final round. After going through various stages  of the competition, with the motion and topic of debate which were  quite challenging, IPB delegation finally able to reach the grand final stage against the delegation of the host, University of Andalas.

After undergone through various stages of competition, IPB representatives finally won first winner for this competition. The second winner was won by University of Andalas and the third winner was won  by HKBP University Medan.

"This competition proves the capability of IPB students. Although the academic discipline of IPB is not law or politics, but its representatives proved that they are able to compete and argue in the law and politics, "he said.

Hopefully in the future, students must be critical of the problems and to keep abreast of national developments. Critical thoughts should be prepared and expressed, one of which will be in the debate competition. Advice for Indonesian students, they should never hesitate to excel, and keep pursuing, praying, and trying. (Wied)
