Hearings of Indonesian Livestock Logistics Forum to Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Agriculture of Government of Indonesia

The team of the Indonesian Livestock Logistics Forum (FLPI) conducted a hearing to the Directorate of Traffic and Sea Transport, the Ministry of Transportation, on 4 December 2017. This hearing was conducted by Prof. Dr. Luki Abdullah as Chairman of FLPI; Dr. Epi Taufik as the Head of Research Coordinator for FLPI; and Dr.Rudi Afnan as Coordinator for Live Animal Transportation of FLPI.
The FLPI team was accepted by Dr.Capt.Wisnu Handoko, Head of Sub Directorate of Sea Transportation as the chairman of the meeting. This hearing program also invited Director of Sea Freight & Toll Transportation of PT PELNI (Persero), Harry Boediarto, as well as the team from Puslitbang Transportasi Laut, Sungai, Danau dan Kisahhub RI.
The Hearing program was actually the follow up action of FLPI's research agenda themed "Optimalisasi Penggunaan Kapal Camara untuk Meningkatkan Efisiensi Sistem Transportasi Ternak = Optimization of the Utilization of Camara Ship to Improve the Efficiency of Animal Transportation System". FLPI has proposed to get the license of the ship directly to Kemenhub RI (Ministy of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia) and PT PELNI for the implementation of research programs on Camara Nusantara Ships.
"FLPI will propose the research program as a national logistics research agenda, the program will be supported by Ditlala (Directorate General of Sea Transportation), R & D and Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) as a steering committee," said Prof. Luki.
"The production of scientific knowledge to be resulted by Camara Nusantara Ships will be used in policy formulation by the government. As data on sea transportation are partially available, especially related to sislognas (National Logistic Systems)," added Harry Boediarto.
The research program on the optimization of Camara Ship utilized by FLPI is expected to provide livestock vessel solution that has not been efficient yet when transporting cattle from Kupang, but empty when returning from Jakarta to Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). Live animals are transported between island by ship while trucks or trains are used for inter province movement on a particular island. "This research is also expected to be able to provide a solution of what products can be loaded on cattle ships, while they empty when returning home to NTT. Ships that are used for the purpose of transferring cattle across the seas are known as livestock carriers or cattle ships. Without the help of such ships, livestock transportation and livestock shipping would have been extremely difficult or completely impossible. They are more difficult than those multifunctional toll boats, while cattle ships are designed to carry cattle," Wisnu explained.
The FLPI hearing program was continued by silaturrahmi (social meeting) with the Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Ketut Diarmita. On this occasion the Director General was accompanied by the Director of Animal Feed, Sri Widiastuti, and a team from the Directorate of Processing and Marketing of Livestock Products (PPHNak). Other guests attended the FLPI Hearing among others were Professional Advisory Committee (PAC), Director of PT Lembu Jantan Perkasa, Harianto Budi Raharjo. The Director General responded positively on the FLPI's activities and will organize programs to be synergized with DG PKH. " Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health is ready to facilitate all FLPI activities that promote Indonesian livestock," explained Ketut. (Wied)
