Jakarta officially named the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, is the capital and most populous city of Indonesia. DKI Jakarta Province is the region is ranking, #1 in Indonesia by number of the taller buildings and skyscrapers. Correspondingly, the frequency of termite attack on buildings in the area is very high. To respond such issue, the team of researchers of the Department of Forest Products, the Faculty of Forestry of Bogor Agricultural University (FAHUTAN IPB) consisting of Prof. Dodi Nandika, Dr. Arinana, Dr. Irsan Alipraja and researcher from the Department of Plant Protection, of the Faculty Agriculture of the same university (FAPERTA IPB), Dr. Idham Sakti Harahap implemented the research program on the hazard class rating of termite attack that occurred in DKI Jakarta Province.

This study aims to determine the zoning danger of termite attack on buildings in DKI Jakarta Province based on the variety of termites found and the value of wood damage. The smallest study area unit in this study is the kecamatan (district). Therefore, every sub-district in DKI Jakarta becomes the source of data generator.

The team of researchers used 1,766 Pinus merkusii termite wood feeders and were put  in 84 urban villages in DKI Jakarta. The results of this study indicate that there are at least six species of termites, namely Microtermes insperatus (Termitidae), Macrotermes gilvus (Termitidae), Coptotermes curvignathus (Rhinotermitidae), C. gestroi (Rhinotermitidae), Schedorhinotermes javanicus (Rhinotermitidae), and Nasutitermes sp . (Termitidae).

The most dominant termite species found in this experiment was M. insperatus found in almost all districts. In addition, Coptotermes spp are also commonly found in every sub-district.

Based on the scoring, there are nine sub-districts that fall under No. 1 of the hazard class rating of termite attack. Those districts are are affected by termite attack include as follows: 1 (one) sub-district in North Jakarta, it is Penjaringan Subdistrict; 2 (two) sub-districts in West Jakarta, they are Pademangan Subdistrict and Palmerah Subdistrict; 3 (three) sub-districts in South Jakarta; Kebayoran Baru Sub-district, Jagakarsa Sub-district and Pesanggrahan Sub-district. While the other three sub-districts are in East Jakarta, namely  Kramatjati District, Duren Sawit District, and District Cipayung. From this research, it can be concluded that Hazard Class One is not occur in Central Jakarta. (Wied)
