By having two international accreditations, the Chairman of the Department of ITP, Dr. Feri Kusnanda was elected as the member of HERB-IFT in the period of 2015-2018 to become the reviewer of the approval process by IFT. This was a very excellent value for ITP of IPB compared to other study programs in Indonesia.

Dr. Feri Kusnandar said the education system of ITP of IPB had been using the international curriculum. The number of teachers were as much as 84 percents of them who had held the doctoral degrees, both outside and domestic graduates.

A string of outstanding alumni had been passed by this department, among others Adhi Lukman Siswadi as Chairman of Association of Food and Beverage Entrepreneurs throughout Indonesia (GAPMMI) and Zumi Zola Zulkifli who served the Governor of Jambi. The achievement of the students of ITP were also very bright, both in the national and international arena, among others representing Indonesia in the international competition entitled “Developing Solution for Developing Country (DSDC) Competition” organized by Institute of Food Technologist Student Association (IFTSA) and always brought the victory every year.

Not only that, one of its teaching staff namely Prof.Dr. Purwiyatno Hariyadi was recently selected as the Vice Chair of Codex Alimentarius Commision (CAC) 2017-2019. CAC which was headquartered in Rome, Italy was the agency under the United Nations to protect the consumer health and to ensure the fair trade in food.

The students of ITP of IPB could also continue their studies abroad, such as Thailand (Mae Fah Luang University, Prince Songkla University, Kasetsart University), Malaysia (Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Sains Malaysia), Japan (Kagawa University, Ibaraki University, Sophia University, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology), German (Gottingen University), Austria (Boku University), and others.

“On average approximately 80 percents of the graduates of ITP of IPB work in the appropriate fields. For the initial stage, they will work in the field of R&D in the national and multinational food, as well as the government bodies like BPOM with the waiting time of less than three months,” said Dr. Feri.

He explained that the food problem in Indonesia was not an easy thing like turning the palm of the hand. “Indonesia is rich, but it is poor in the human resources. Therefore, Indonesia needs the intelligent people who understand the problem of food. It’s not just about how is the biological growth, but it is also more humane development. ITP of IPB has had a great influence on the food industry of Indonesian and the world,” he said. (SM/NM)
