The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs RI Marked July 24th as the Beginning of Floriculture Day

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs RI, Mr. Darmin Nasution, casted flower in the bouquet of flowers and signed the inscription as a symbol of the declaration of Floriculture Day Indonesia which falls every 24th of July. The event was held at Grha Sawala of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Ali Wardhana Building, Jalan Lapangan Banteng Timur Jakarta, on Monday, 24 July 2017.
The Indonesian Floriculture Day is the agenda of the softlaunching of the Floriculture Indonesia event, which was held on 5 May 2017. On this special occasion, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs conveyed, that the declaration of the National Floriculture Day, it will aspire the floriculture industry to increase more than before.
Floriculture will be organized in cooperation with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (Kemenko), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), Bogor City Government and Asbindo Association (Asbindo).
Previously, the Coordinating Minister said that the potential for the development of floriculture agribusiness in Indonesia is still very large. This is supported by wide genetic diversity, favourable soil and agro-climate conditions, and increasing market demand. However, the potential has not been optimally utilized. Right-touch regulation and responsibility for agribusiness is needed, as to encourage this floriculture play a more important role in the national economy.
After the launching of the Indonesian Floriculture Day, the agenda was continued with the visit of the invited guests to the flower exhibition that exhibited flowers from various regions of Indonesia, such as jasmine, chrysanthemum, orchid and other species.
The last agenda was the dialogue on " Kebangkitan Florikultura Indonesia = The Rise of Floriculture of Indonesia". This dialogue was attended by the activists of the national floriculture industry. A summary of this dialogue was provided by Karen Tambayong says, the fundamental issues faced by floriculture agribusiness at present are environmental degradation of the production areas and global climate change, the limited availability of infrastructure, land and irrigation. In addition, low land tenure, weak national seed system, limited access of farmers to capital, high interest rates for farming industry, weak capacity and institutional of farmers and extension workers, low farmer exchange rate (NTP), and not lack of integration of sectors in supporting agribusiness development Floriculture. Based on dialogue, the Organizing Committee has formulated the policy of developing floriculture by building intensive communication with stakeholders to initiate partnership cooperation in the field of floriculture development in Indonesia.
Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, stated that Indonesia has great potential for floriculture. A number of tropical flowers that potentially to be developed include orchids, heliconia, and celosia. He said that the Florikulture Indonesia has only absorbed approximately 750,000 workers and contributed 12 percent of GDP only. Rector hoped that this event will increase the business potential of the Indonesian floriculture. (Wied)
