Students of IPB Motivated the Blind Students to Be Powerful
A group of students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) through Student Creativity Program for Community Services (PKM-M) initiated the companion program in an effort to increase the motivation of SLB B Tunas Kasih in Bogor City. They were Irzan Fredian Nugroho, Yora Saprilia, Novia Eka Fitriyani, Aryo Mashelido, and Rina Nurfazita. Based on the observation result, there were some motivation problems experienced by the students of SLB Tunas Kasih, such as the lack of interaction with the social environment outside the school and the lack of awareness of the environmental health. Some ways that the school management were taking in improving the quality of the graduates of SLB Tunas Kasih were still not optimal, it took the effort from the general public as well as to make it happen.
PKM-M Tunas Cilik brought the fresh air for the upbringing students, through various activities slowly of the self-motivation and the awareness of the healthy environment. The Program of Momotasi (the monopoly of achievement motivation) was into a game to increase the motivation of the students to improve the social life and the motivation. The monopoly was basically the game that involved a group of people and could describe some social concepts. The modification to the board of this game was every board panel box containing the words of pearl and the humanitarian attitudes that increased the motivation of players.
Other supporting program was the student creation week of SLB (PKM-S) which had the purpose of instilling the value of the environmental love through the fun creative activities. The activities that had been done among others making creations from used bottles into a variety of the plastic flowers and the verticulture planting media pots. The activities were followed by the agenda to plant the horticultural crops on the pots that had been made. Various planted plants were green mustard and crystal guava. These experiences could be made the provision in the future for the students of SLB Tunas Kasih. Another big agenda was bringing all the students of SLB-B Tunas Kasih to explore the Campus of IPB Dramaga as a trigger of the social interaction with the environment.
Through PKMM Tunas Cilik, the community was expected to provide the space for the children with special needs. “The children with special needs should not be underestimated, they also have the self potential. We have to pay attention and care for each other,” said Irzan. (EAW/ris)
